Hi Shannon,
I hope you can see that the people here really are trying to help you. It sounds like you had a crappy doctor/therapist in the past as if he based his diagnosis on the drug use alone, then he was incorrect in giving you this diagnosis. Have you had other trauma in your past? Its possible for someone to have experienced trauma, be TOTALLY fine, and then have a non-criterion A stressor which pushes them over the edge. The person then thinks its the lesser stressor which is the cause of PTSD, but it really isn't, as the true source is the earlier trauma. (It can be a bit confusing!) If you haven't experienced any other traumas which qualify you for PTSD, then unfortunately you don't meet the criterion for the disorder as the diagnosing manual (DSM-V) actually excludes diagnosis when all of the symptoms were brought on by drug use alone. (And thank god for that, or else I'd have something like bipolar I on my record as well!)
It doesn't help you to tell you that you have PTSD due to drug use because the treatment and symptoms are a bit different than what we experience. Nobody here is telling you that you aren't suffering, as I believe that you are. It would be akin to one of us going to a forum for something like schizophrenia and thinking that the treatments advised there would help our PTSD. (That is, for those of us who don't actually have schizophrenia.)
I hope you seek out a second opinion so that you can get the right kind of help!
