Night Sweats?

I had no idea this was a part of the ptsd but makes so much sense now! Thanks for posting. Since starting to have flashbacks and more apparent signs of ptsd I've been incredibly drenched waking up and thinking that I must be getting the flu or something. Reading this actually made me link an earlier episode of night sweats closer to the time of trauma.Every day is like a journey to uncover the facts of my own life. Does anyone else research obsessively to try to gain a better understanding?

I have woken up drenched in sweat nearly every night for 15 months. This coincides with the beginning of processing of trauma that I had repressed for many years. At the beginning the sweating was very disruptive, but now I only have to change clothes once or twice a night (that sounds ridiculous). Like you all, I went to doctors and heard menopause (I was really hoping 33 was too early), heard it blamed on my mental health meds, heard that it sometimes happens to college athletes (totally irrelevant) - all in all, I've felt ignored. It has frustrated me because this is not trivial. This is every night. And I'm left to sort out on my own what the cause might be. I'm encouraged to find other people who are dealing with this, and that as the trauma heals, it will get better. But I'm also really sorry that you have to deal with it. I'm tired of it, and not just because of the inconvenience. It makes me feel like there's something wrong with me.

My sweats were trivialized by my MD but my t says it is common. On and off for years, worst following a major surgery or when clearing my body of one of the many ssri's I have been coerced into taking along the way. If all I had to do was take some blankets off the bed, I think I would have figured it out on my own.

If I had a degree from a medical school on my wall and heard the words "have you tried fewer blankets?" coming out of my mouth, I would feel a bit of embarrassment, maybe even some sweat forming.

I have recently opened up and shared my story for the first time since it happened, almost 40 years ago. I have incredible survivor's guilt and now, incredible ANGER because of what happened. My body is letting me know the burden it has been carrying! Mostly though I'm very angry with the lack of support from my family. Once I decided to detach from my 'family', about six months ago, in came the night sweats. Profuse sweating that makes me leap from my bed to angrily peel off whatever I'm wearing and toss it on the floor. I'm sure this is related to my "complex PTSD'' and hopefully it is leading to healing (the insomnia and nightmares that accompany this are really overwhelming) - - - but like so many others on here, it has been dismissed as menopause etc etc. Thank god for you people on here.

It sucks like all hell but I'm happy I'm not alone. I went through five shirts and two, what I like to call, bed towels last night. It's difficult explaining to your girlfriend why the room smells like a gym at night.

I've suffered PTSD since 2 after a personal ordeal and I never had night sweats. I just recently got shot in the chest on my way to work and ever since I have the same occurence. I dont remember dreaming and I wake up in a puddle of sweat like somebody drenched water on me. I thought I was suffering from something but up until I read your post I didnt know what it was. Thank you for helping me

Does anyone else suffer from nightsweats?
i nevever used to have a problem with sweating at night...
Unfortunately this is common with ptsd. I get them that bad sometimes wake up soaking wet. Try some meditation before going to sleep this can help relax the mind. Good luck stay strong.
