Now A Mac Household

Well, ever since Nicolette brought home the first mac... well actually... it stems back many years when we got our first iPhones actually... I have been fascinated with Apple more and more, like, "what's the hype about?"

We finally gutted the office on the weekend and put in all our new iMacs. Nicolette is extremely funny, as she has hers with Windows loaded, again... due to MYOB use and its painful, but me... if I don't see Windows again, it would still be to soon!

The more I play around with mac, the more I love it. Like just wanting to be able to use one keyboard and mouse to multi-task across macs... one simple 1mb app called teleport, allows me to run my mouse of my mac and onto any number of others around me... so I have macs beside me, no keyboard or mouse.... yet fully independent systems doing their own things, not just monitors.

iPhones, iPad and now all iMacs.... whoo hoo! Damn Nicolette though still has one notebook around... which I refuse to change because it cost so much to get, and isn't very old... so once its seen its day, notebook out, macbook in.

Apple party.... I can see why Apple's profits exceeded even their own projections, with an increase of 40% + in the last fiscal year... whilst old Microsoft is struggling along.

NEVER going back to PC's and Windows OS.... yuk!

And I remember bringing home the first Mac & you asking me "why did you buy that?!" I went to work & came home to you oohing and aahing over the Mac. All I heard was "did I know it does this and that?!" then it seemed to disappear from my side of the desk.:rolleyes::p

I switched to Mac 10 years ago? Or something like that. I like Pc's but I just can't explain how much I love my computer but staring in to screen all day long can make real life look super dull, lol. If only our eyes had higher performing graphics cards.:barefoot:

I have had Macs since they first appeared (thank you educator discounts...). My husband didn't like computers until he tried a Mac... then we had to become a 2 Mac household to keep the peace. That was many years ago. He has since gone over to the dark side because of work but will still say Macs are much better.
Love my iPad, iPhone and my iMac!!! Yup, definitely a Mac head... :cool:

I love how much impact Mac has made in that there isn't a major software retailer now that isn't making their product for both platforms... That was a lot of the reason many years ago I wouldn't look further at Mac, because the moment I asked something like... can you buy all Adobe products for Mac? The answer was no, BUT, you can use this private open source one that does the job the same... blah blah blah... all BS, and didn't do the job the same and I could get the same open source software for PC...

Now... WOW. Watching Nicolette struggle along with Windows still, because she needs it for her work, and constantly complaining because something isn't working, needs some driver, some update corrupted something, etc etc... and I just breeze alone using OSX without issue. I don't need to download some pdf reader, built-in, I don't need to download some PDF print ability, built-in converter to PDF... I don't need to buy some complicated photo gallery program, mac just has it and does it better still, using facial recognition. I don't have a camera, microphone, speakers, etc etc etc plugged in and hanging off my system, no monitor cables, just one power plug and it just works seemlessly... oh, I do use the LAN connection though, not wireless... as wireless does have issues with secure connections.

I just can't preach how converted I am... whilst I have been wrong in the past about mac... I tend to also stick by my findings that many things just weren't adequately available... but they are now. Near every game out is also made for mac... which is just awesome.

My husband's biggest complaint was the lack of games. I am not a big gamer so it has never been a big deal for me. Give me some mindless puzzle game and I am happy. I have always used the Mac word processing and used to find the Office Suite just frustrating. I have had to learn how to use it for school so it isn't as frustrating. My spouse bought me a little PC to use for work a few months back. It made me insane so now he has another laptop. He doesn't use it much either. I prefer my iPad if I need to be mobile and may invest in an iBook one of these days. IMHO, Mac is just so much more stable and intuitive.

I am with all of you. I am a Super Mac Freak. It is significantly more simple to operate. Plus it simply does what it is supposed to. I am very glad that I transferred...

I'm a total Mac fan, too. I have three right now that I use mainly for drafting. I have one set up with Boot Camp and Windows on it so I can use AutoCAD. They even have a new iPhone app that allows me to open AutoCAD drawings on my iPhone! I don't really have a use for an iPad because I can't use my drafting program on it and I take my MacBook everywhere anyway, so what's the point of taking an iPad also? I am going to get one for my fiancee because she could use it for her business.

Macs might be more expensive but they are so much more superior than PCs. At my last job at a large company, we used PCs and AutoCAD. It required so much maintenance to keep those beasts working that my boss and I sat down one day and actually calculated that they were paying me $2500 per year just to keep the PCs working. That was NOT my job at all! I was supposed to be designing and drawing but my co-workers were a little older and just could not figure out computers, so they asked me to do it.

After that experience, I have not seen a PC that I didn't want to punch in the face.

Yep... why more and more are slowly shifting to Mac I think.

Being honest, shifting scared me. Mac is different to Windows, however; after giving it a go and learning how to use it, it just blows Windows out of the water. Every time I want to do something that I don't know how, I Google it and 99% of the time its built-in to Mac or you can grab a quick app that will perform the task. I don't have all the security issues these days, as Mac are a hell of a lot more secure than PC's, from both an OS and attack viewpoint.

Our computers just work now... with Windows, it was like... will it boot, will I get an error, will it crash, etc. Was just a nightmare for reliability.

Going from click everything to click and keyboard shortcuts, is a little different, as Mac tends to force you to learn shortcuts to quickly do things vs. click everything to achieve. I find myself performing things now so much faster though by having to learn the Mac way, as a result.

One of the things that I have learned about running Boot Camp/Windows on a MacBook is that it can sometimes kill the chip that controls the recharging of the battery. If you have Mac desktops, this probably shouldn't be an issue. In my last office, two of us installed Windows in order to run AutoCAD and both of our MacBooks ended up the same way. The battery control chip was killed so now we can not run them without plugging in. This is not an issue for me because I have a newer MacBook. It would cost about $200 to fix but I don't really need it so I haven't bothered.

This is the first problem that I have ever had with a Mac. The quality is usually very high. I just want to point out that it is Windows related! Two of my friends and I bought Powerbooks in about 1996 for college and they all still work, except I dropped mine and broke the screen, but I can plug in a monitor and it works fine.
