Opinions Please: Do I Tell Work?

Hi Butter-Bee, I completely understand why you would want to talk to someone at work. If there is someone that you completely trust to understand and keep it to themselves then maybe it is something you should do. When I made my earlier comment I was talking about telling my boss when the PTSD was intensifying a health issue and interfering with how I did my job.

I also told another person earlier when I was struggling with new memories. I didn't tell her any details but I just let her know that there may be a few times when I just needed to pop into her office at an odd time and take a breather from my desk and maybe take a few minutes to talk. All she knew was that something had happened in my past and sometimes I just needed a distraction. If you have someone who you can do that with then it really does help. I was lucky and felt I could really trust that person and she never betrayed that trust.

After getting a warning at work today about having over my 8 days sick even though they know I have IBS (but don't know that it is anxiety related and I don't think they know I have PTSD)

Question is: Because my work isn't affected and I am getting up and going should I explain my situation to them a bit so they know that maybe the way I act isn't because I'm immature or moody and I'm not having sick days so I can chill at home its actually because I do have an illness?

Butter-Bee, I think that approaching the subject in regard to the warning you received concerning your sick days is something that definitely needs to be done. I am not sure it is necessary to reveal any more than IBS unless you choose to do so. Since you can do your job and don't require special accommodations, I would suggest leaving the discussion at the issue at hand.

Best of luck in whatever route you choose to go.

Debbie

Reading all these posts makes me feel so blessed at my job. My coworkers know about my PTSD, and they have been so accomodating. They don't know about DID/DDNOS, and I'm not sure they need to...PTSD is comprehensive enough.
