I need prescriptions at the moment, but longterm goal would be to NOT need them. I cut back on my sedative and tried adding "Dream Water" one night (a mix of melatonin and GABA and 5-HTP. I think Solara was the one to mention that when I posted something about otc sleep meds. I can't recommend this stuff on top of a sedative, but I've been taking the sedatives so long that they do nothing. Anyway, I did get to sleep but was awake for an hour in the middle of the night...will continue the experiment though. I also ordered tryptophan because maybe it can also help with some of my cramp/hormone problems...not sure what the connection was, but something...
Unisom used to work for me. It's not really safe to take Tylenol PM all the time, so I switched to Unisom (has they Benadryl ingredient I don't dare spell). It might work now if I weren't on painkillers. Melatonin and valerian did nothing for me, but probably also because of the pain meds. What also helps a lot lately is putting Pandora on the lullaby station and setting the volume really low...or some favorite playlist. When I woke up at 2am it wasn't so stressful because I woke in the middle of a Bach Partita and just thought, "wow, this is just lovely"...listened a while and drifted back to sleep.
Lack of sleep is so bad for me (like bring on the meltdown in <24 hours). Hang in there and hope you find something that helps.
