Pain Relief

Damn, it's one of those things that "if we can go to the moon, why can't we"....My mother suffered terribly from back problems. She had numerous surgeries, one at Landstuhl, Tim and it just seemed to get worse each time.

Jar, friend, I appreciate it, but I hate needles, I think worse than the pain. It used to bug the hell outta me just giving my wife a shot. Altho' there may come a day. What I need to do is get off my ass and go see a Dr. about it.

Jimmy, I'm afraid they're gonna have to do the same to me to get to my aneurism. They have a stint, but I haven't heard the best reports about them. Don't you really run a big chance of infection with your intestines hanging out like that? They had my wife in for a heart attack and she got Mursa and that was a major contributor to her death.

You have to ask yourself the question. Either live with unbearable pain and end up in a wheel chair, or take the risk.

I ended up with a Staph infection which put me back in hospital, and even though I still suffer from pain, it is by far reduced to what it was.

Hey Sarg

Are you talking about a temporary colostomy? It's the only thing that comes to mind when you say that your intestines are hanging out.

If so, I had one for about seven months after I got wounded the second time. I had a lot of shrapnel perforate my lower bowel and intestines. So, they created a loop through my side about waist high that I would excrete waste through. It allowed the lower area to heal without the possibility of any infectious material going through it. It wasn't fun but was always covered with a colostomy bag so it was 'easy' to keep clean. Hope that wasn't too much info on that. Best part was farting. You had absolutely no control, got some funny stories to tell about that. Maybe sometime later.

Anyway, I understand about needles as well. Developed a pulmonary embolism and was on anticoag drugs for a long time. Had to have my blood taken 4 times a day so that the levels could be constantly monitored. Too much and you'd literally bleed to death internally. Ah, the good ol' days.

Acupuncture, though, is just a very slim and almost painless needle. But I understand your dislike of them. It's a hard thing but Jimmy's right, take the risk. It's at least a chance at a better life with more mobility and less pain. Hope it all works out for ya' Bro.

Jar

No, Jar, it's an aortic aneurism. The main artery that runs just in front of the backbone. I'm at 4.3cm and they operate at 5.0. They have to remove my organs to get to it to sew it up (I guess). Heh, it's weird, the very thing that pretty much forced me to quit drinking, could kill me. Wish I could say it was willpower or discipline that made me stop, but every time I took a drink over one per day and it burned like hell.

Eventually "trained" me to drink less and less. Now, I can't imagine going back to being a drunk. I like being able to jump in my truck any time day or night and not be under the influence.

Still treasure that "special" beer every day. Into local brewerys and imported beers now that I don't drink to get drunk. Saves a hell of a lot of money, too! Wouldn't recommend it tho', right now the thing could burst and I'd be dead in seconds.

Hell Sarg get that taken care of, it's not something to fool around with. Please, I know it's major but I'd like to keep hearin' from my friend across the miles for quite a while yet.

I'm monitoring it, friend, that's all I can do. If it hits 5, I won't have much of a choice, they'll have to open me up. And me such a big fan of hospitals.

Sarg

open it up and get it taken care of ASAP please!!1 I would hate to see you suffering or risking your life. Its better to be opened like a gutted fish and all that imo. But then again, I am not the guy who has to go through it. I hope your ok....

I have a little idea what you are going through. I had to have my chest cracked open and my heart stopped and put on a heart machine, ventilator and had my aortic valve replaced by a mechanical one. I had tubs coming out through every hole in by body to include some new ones made for me to drain the blood out of my stomach and chest areas. It was a 8 hour operation and I was out for almost 3 days on the ventilator. I left the hospital in 5 days. They wanted to keep me longer but I said hell no.

Oh, god! You had to tell me that. I hate the sight of blood, especially when it's mine!!! HA! Well, glad to hear you made it through all that, Viper. Maybe they can put me out at the front door and bring me around when they're wheelchairing me out! Good for me, good for them! No?

Hey Sarg

Mate, they make a vertical cut from your belly button to your pubes. Then they remove all your intestines and then the main artery and vein. This allows access to the lumbar region from the inside. They do their work and then stuff it all back in.

If you Google 'ALIF' there are some great video's.
