Pancakes!

I actually had pancakes for dinner tonight! We unfortunately did not have any fresh blueberries, so we settled for some canned blueberry pie filling as a sauce on top, along with some strawberries and freshly whipped cream. They were delicious.

I absolutely adore Lucycat's pizza pancake idea, and I cannot wait to try it myself! For a savory pancake, you might also look into potato pancakes - they're not the same thing, but they are pretty tasty.

March 4th is National Pancake Day here in the US and IHOP (International House of Pancakes) is offering free short stacks of buttermilk pancakes on National Pancake Day Tuesday, March 4. Hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The pancakes are completely free with no purchase required. Although not required, you will be asked to give a donation to the Children's Miracle Network in any amount you'd like. Their 2014 goal is to reach $3 million in donations. (And please remember a gratuity for your server.)

Hmmm. Do a good deed and get some pancakes. It's my day off and I'll probably be there. Raspberry syrup is my favorite and even though I'm allergic to pancakes... it's for charity so I think I might just indulge.

The pancakes I make are from a diabetic cookbook, still carbs but more filling than a standard fluffy pancake. Basic ingredients 1c flour, 1c whole wheat flour, 1T baking powder, 1/3c butter, 1/4c applesauce, 1c milk & 1t vanilla extract. Whisk it all together, cook em up & top with fresh or frozen berries. You can use an egg or a banana instead of applesauce but I find the banana makes them heavier & mushy. The cake is thicker than a standard one mind you but yummy just the same!!!

Sour dough pancakes with apple butter on them is what I love, or my mother used to make a recipe called GLUMPKI which is Lithuanian. You make a thin large pancake, then stuff it with a mixture of even parts cottage cheese and eggs, then roll the pancakes up so it is like a piggy in a blanket. We used to beg her to make these, as they are so tasty!

Enjoy your Pancake day. I think I shall have some today too, this is good inspiration!

Oooooh Pancakes!!! Is it dinner time yet? I feel like a little kid I'm excited!!

Traditionally - Fresh orange juice with segments of fresh orange or mandarin & a small sprinkling of sugar.

Mmmmm really can't wait now! :)

I wonder if it's wrong to have Pancake Week instead of Pancake Day...? :)

Brilliant Idea!!! :)

Sooooooo it's pancakes for breakfast lol. I have no willpower! I've given in cannot wait until lunch :D

Wow Tillybee - a lady after my own heart!

I have settled on...

Mushroom and spinach crepes for starters
Butternut squash, chickpea and blue cheese "lasagne" pancakes for main (you layer the filling with pancakes and bake like a lasagne)
Buttermilk pancakes with blueberries and maple syrup for pudding

Then a lie down in a darkened room!!!!!

But I will be making a note of all the other fab suggestions so I can work on them for next year!!!

xxx

I just had pancakes for lunch :) home made including the eggs... (Well the eggs were from our chickens in the garden!) a 'small' sprinkling of sugar and lemon :) we have a youth group tomorrow night and will be doing pancakes, with a large collection of stuff from the shop over the road... Creme eggs, chocolate bars, sweets, lemon, lime, orange, sugar, golden syrup... I may post back with what creations they came up with!!

Didn't even know there was such a day, but I shouldn't be surprised. My grandma use to make Swedish pancakes, much thinner then american, and more like crepes. Sorry I don't have a recipe. Purely by the box here. ;)

Technically it's called Shrove Tuesday and is the day before Lent begins - apparently it was a way of using all the rich ingredients you weren't supposed to use for the next 40 days (is Lent 40 days?!) and now it's an excuse for a pig out!!!!

@Toria Lent is 40 days if you don't include Sundays (or whichever day of the week is your sabbath) as it was traditionally a fast, and traditionally you don't fast on the sabbath. Took me years to get my head around it! (Although no one every explained it to me)

Many of our youth favoured lemon and sugar as the topping of choice, as well as ice cream, squirty cream, sprinkles and ice cream sauce (hello massive sugar hit once they got home!) my personal favourite topping of the night was chocolate spread and marshmallows (melted together, very similar to a s'more just bigger!)

Chocolate and marshmallow? Genius!!!! My list for next year is getting longer and longer!

Thank you also for the explanation - religion is very confusing. Especially Easter being a movable feast!
