New Here
I'm obviously new to this all. I've been in law enforcement for eleven years and been bottling up every death and traumatic event since the beginning. I had been successfully hiding it from everyone, including myself, until it finally came in one bad event. Like someone smashing a large aquarium.

I've always been relatively healthy in the terms of medication. I was diagnosed two weeks ago and now I'm taking way more than I ever have. Lexipro, trazadone, etc... Pills I used to take off suspects.

I'm a fighter and will get this, but until then it has been nice to read all your posts and know I'm not alone. Thank you

Welcome!

Just one question.... Were you given multiple medications at once? I'm curious as some doctors, mine included, hesitate to add or change more than one thing at a time as it can become confusing as to which pill does what in terms if side effects or possible benefits.

I totally get that, when I first started I had never taken any kind of medication, and the whole process was rather overwhelming :( but I had to trust in my T to guide me. Since I have trust issues I still need to run by the T any time the med guy (psychiatrist) wants to change my medication. But I realize in hindsight now, that I needed something to help calm my brain down, so I could function. My startle reflect was so strong it was interfering with my daily life and really wearing me out! I had always been very together and strong before, thought I could manage it on my own, even went and did a triathlon to keep my body calm, but my mind was stronger and needed a leash or something hahaha

Of course you are suffering. I cannot imagine what you have seen, all in a days work. You are extremely brave to post and join here and I welcome you. I would think many of your co-workers in law enforcement would also suffer from ptsd, but I also think it might be unpopular to admit. This is why I want to really acknowledge your guts and desire to seek help, coming forward. Good for you!
