Posting To Trauma Diaries

These two questions may seem silly, but I am a newbie here.

I have been wanting to post to the Private and/or Member's Trauma Diaries for quite some time, but didn't want to risk misusing them. (In fact, I did once fill out a post in the Private section, but erased it and logged off without posting.)

And, forgive me if this subject is covered somewhere else; I did not know how to do a search for these answers. I also wasn't sure where on the board to post my questions.

1. Are the Trauma Diaries supposed to be used only for posting details of the trauma that caused your PTSD? Or can/should they be used like journals, to vent about things in daily life that make you angry, or sad.

2. And, what is the difference between the various Diaries? Is it only a matter of each person's comfort level, whether they post to Public, Members, or Private Trauma Diaries?

Thanks for your help!

Members Diaries can only be seen by those people who are members of the forum and you have to be logged on.

Public Diaries can be seen by anyone whether logged in or not.

Private Diaries are for those with special circumstances and can only be seen by Anthony and the person who owns the diary. Not even other members who have private diaries can see the other private ones.

  1. Yes... they are a personal diary for you to vent your trauma and day to day traumatic issues. One diary per trauma diary forum.
  2. Yes... that is correct.

I apologize if this is slightly off topic, but my question is about the diaries. Is one supposed to discuss the contents of another's diary outside the diary area? I joined Trauma Members for the express purpose of my diary not being indexed in seach engines. I feel somewhat paranoid to post in there thinking someone might mention my diary or its contents here in the public section, where it can be accessed on the internet. Thank you for answering.

Thank you to both Nicolette and Anthony for your answers to my post. Much appreciate the information and quick response!

Hi Dean

My understanding is that Diary content should be kept in the diary sections just as PTSD Private content should not be brought out into the general chat areas. If a person does refer to your diary or private area content you should report the post immediately and it will be removed. You, on the other hand, being the writer of your diary etc can reference what only you have written but it should not reference others nor should others reference it. However be aware if you bring something public you then face what you are trying to avoid.

I am sure Anthony will correct me if any of this is not totally accurate.

Hi Dean,

Public diary content can be reference, quoted, etc throughout the forum as it is searchable by search engines. Members, PTSD and Private diary content should never be quoted outside those diaries, for the exact reason you mention. Sure, you can discuss things from within the diary in the public areas, though unless you are the author, the content should not be quoted.

People may not mention things specific, with names, places, etc, if that information is contained in those diaries, especially the PTSD area.

I have just given you access to the PTSD group as I know who you are, which gives you far greater privacy now for discussion without members in general being able to see what you write, only those who have access to the PTSD group can read and respond to your writing.

Thank you Nicolette and Anthony, for the responses, I understand the conditions now. Anthony, much appreciated for access to the private group. It wasn't something I had even thought about, given I am new, but I appreciate it.

I've had success using my diary. I found with journaling I would re-read it and then not like what I wrote. I ended up just deleting it. This doesn't help me go back and find thought patterns like I've been told to do. Also, the member support and prespectives I get are soooo valuable to me. But it's all a matter of comfort. Sometimes I just bitch about my life to get it out and sometimes I'm more thoughtful. I've noticed I make a bigger effort to be positive or see the brighter side of things. Whatever you decide...just make it yours and it will grow from there.
