New Here
My significant other is my heart and soul. Recently she has had a traumatic event in our life. For her this is the second, and myself the biggest.
I come here, for us. I am not helping with her PTSD all that well. I am confused, frustrated, and depressed because I feel I am making it worse for her.

Welcome to the forum Mark. The people here are very kind and there is lot of experience and information for you here from supporters and sufferers alike.

I hope you are able to find what you need. Even if it's just a place to vent out your thoughts, it helps.

@Mark Gordon Welcome to the forum!

Neither of you "are PTSD" and it is something that you have, but it doesn't define who you are. It is like any other illness and requires treatment and time to recover, even though there are times that doesn't even seem possible. I hope you find the information and support here helpful to your healing.

Okay now I'm confused. It is your partner who has been diagnosed with PTSD, not you both? What is her trauma and what was the shared trauma if you care to share that generally (specifics not necessary). Is she currently in therapy? There are a series of videos for supporters on here somewhere I believe. I'll try to find it and put it here.

Okay so, until my PTSD brain can remember where they are or if they are still here... the new member welcome link has quite a lot of articles and information on the right column. Might be worth some reading, and in addition to those if you scroll down further there are a goodly number of archived articles. Anthony's articles are really very solid, the man does his homework.

She has been diagnosed, and I believe my 13 year divorce has contributed to bouts with PTSD. A friend of my son, after they left, came back to burglarize our home. My fiancé came home from work early, without knowing he was in the house, and went through the kitchen towards the front door. When she got to the front door he tackled her, raped her, and then commenced in strangling her. She how ever did escape, as well as the burglar. This was around 230 in he afternoon, in broad daylight. He is now incarcerated, for life.
Yes she is in therapy, and struggling with work who by no means is understanding or helping her. She is questioned on a continuous basis when she takes FMLA, and given poor information from her HR and EAP advocates.

Well Mark, based on what you share, I can say that my last near traumatic break... my own mister had similar issues with my behavior and my inability to function. I managed to work but that was just about it as well. We did to joint sessions, and he did independent ones, and we were mentored separately and jointly in our church.

I can say personally I struggled post trauma about my home being "safe" and I had a really difficult time being there. As you continue to post or if you start a diary in the supporters section... there are other supporters and PTSD's here you can assist and help you with your own stuff and offer different perspectives... there is a broad spectrum of experiences here. Thanks for your reply.
