Hi CBetheart,

Welcome to MyPTSD forum! :)

PTSD symptoms don't run a specific time table and they can appear many years after the initial trauma. It is also important not to compare your response with that of others as we are all individuals and different things will affect each person differently. What is important is that you are in counseling and dealing with your symptoms. I hope the information and support here is beneficial to your healing.

Take care.

Debbie

I'm looking for a "mentor", a go to person because I don't have anyone who has any idea to talk to. I know ptsd is extremely hard in the first place but being an adolescent makes it hard to get the right support because I am still in my parents care. Friend/PM me if you think you can help.

CB heart,

Welcome here. I think it is a great sign that you are working on getting better and yet are so young. It's quite impressive.

I imagine it must be extremely isolating to have it when your family did not get it. It is hard for non PTSD's to understand the experience and I am sure being young and falling under your family still must add to things.

Mum thought I was over reacting and told me to get over it as did a counselor at school
I am so sorry. :( I think experiences like this add to the trauma.

You are not overreacting. In some respects your mind has responded in a "normal" way to overwhelming feelings and experiences.

Its interesting as it often seems that symptoms come up when people feel a little safer. Like when the abuser dies for example.
