Marley and Me: Life and Love with the World's most Worst Dog (The book is brilliant, while the movie isn't worth the time to watch it)

I LOVE Owen Wilson but I can't force myself to watch it - good to know the book is worthwhile, though! James Herriot is another name I've heard but not investigated.

Cold Sassy Tree and The Cry of Angels. For the life oF me I can not rememer the authors names.it is the only book each of them wrote.

@ladee - I can close my eyes and see the spine of Cold Sassy Tree. Somewhere in my house! I'll _literally_ watch out for that one.

The Eagle and The Raven - Pauline Gedge. Not a kids book, about the Roman invasion of Britain. My absolute favorite book.

anything by Piers Anthony, Sci-Fi

The first sounds my speed, definitely... And I'm a fan of sci-fi but somehow never ran across Piers Anthony. Any suggestions for starting out with him?

@TreeHugger - I LOVE Midnight in Paris! The 1920's are my favorite and one thing I liked was the depiction of people like Hemingway and Picasso, Gertrude Stein... not a ton of screen time for each, but I felt like they "caught" some of the personas very well. And Owen Wilson saying "THAT was Djuana Barnes? No wonder she wanted to lead!" was kinda funny. There were so many little bits I'm sure I missed some. And lovable Owen Wilson. (I know it's silly, but I will always like him best in Wedding Crashers!)

I've worn through 3 copies of The Eagle and The Raven :hilarious:

for Piers Anthony, if you want Sci-Fi that becomes fantasy try The Apprentice Adept trilogy; if you want strictly fantasy try the Xanth series (novels full of puns, totally hilarious - a nightmare is literally a black mare that brings dreams at night, a daymare...). These are strictly adult novels though, so be warned

The Velveteen Rabbit is one of my all-time favorites. Also anything by Dr. Seuss. When I met my newborn niece, I brought her a copy of The Lorax and read it to her. It was the first book anyone had ever read to her. She was two months old and we actually saw her eyes following my finger on the words and her little hand would come up when it was time to turn the page, lol. The Harry Potter novels might be pretty easy to get through, too. At least I managed to get through the first one, post-PTSD. I have the same problem with reading now. Good luck!

Looooove the Laura Ingalls books, the Banks of Plum Creek one was my favorite.

Other books that enjoyed were the Anne of Green Gables ones , Little Women, and Roald Dahl books, BFG and Georges Marvellous Medecine

Kids classics- Pretty much anything by Frances Hodgson Burnett- A Little Princess, The Secret Garden, Little Lord Fauntleroy, Noel Streatfield books such as Ballet Shoes (great if you were a 'ballet book' kid, or wanted to be famous), Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, the Narnia Books, Enid Blyton books- my Favourites are the Malory Towers series, but I like the mystery books too. Oh and Joyce Lancaster Brisley's Milly Molly Mandy stories, if you're in the mood for a book for younger readers.

Any children's book by Roald Dahl, from Matilda to The Minpins (picture book), Diana Wynne Jones stories- Howl's Moving Castle is a great one to start with. Or, more recent authors- Terry Pratchett's Wee Free Men series, Michael Morpurgo's books, Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider books- Stormbreaker is the first in the series, Jacqueline Wilson stories (though they can be a bit too 'real life' for easy reading)... I could continue.:whistling: I read a lot of children's books.
