Readers thread: what or who are you reading right now?

I was reading a history of the early Popes. I had to stop, they were horrific people. I don't understand how they could have been so awful when they headed the Catholic Religion. My parents are Catholic, and I know the previous Pope was well loved. I just don't get it.

Leaders of all sorts pretty much always have clay feet. Well, don’t most of us? I think being reacquainted with that horror - every day like a slap in the face with a wet mackerel caught last Tuesday ... is a real horror of this disorder.

When books speak only good or bad about anyone I wonder about the accuracy of the rest of the content. Even the heroes and the heinous.

Reading the oracle year. It’s far too late at night. :(

I have just downloaded a book called ‘days by moonlight ‘. This decision was made on the basis it had absolutely no reviews, is narrated by the author and was in what I think might be my favourite genre: magical realism.

I've just started reading a novel, A book of scars - William Shaw Quercus

So far a broken detective goes to recuperate on a farm where a brutal, unsolved murder has happened. Yeah that's so common...

It had better pick up the pace and get on with something better sooner than later or I will throw it back in the library bag.

The epigraph is compelling... - :If we are going to sin we must sin quietly - Eric Griffith-jones, Attorney General, Kenya, June 1957

On a Lighter note... I just finished a good read called the The land before Avocado... very funny in parts and tragic in others.

It is a quick look into the idea that Australians 1960 - 1975 were better off/happier etc than now? Yes a whole book on that idea. It concludes that we are better off now in most ways - if still far from perfect. I agree.
