So I had a really good session today. Despite feeling horrible physically (major kidney problems flaring up), it was completely positive. I asked my T in an email after my last session what her policy on touch was because we had never formally discussed it before. So we started to talk about that, I had no hopes of her saying one thing or another, I just wanted to know her stand on touch. My T uses judgement as to whether she should touch a client or not, she won't with some clients, and will with others. She said she will always ask first, that she will never come from over top of me (which a previous T did and it was terrifying), that she will never come from behind. Honestly it took away the fear factor of not knowing how she stood on touch, now that I know and she has explained what she will and won't do I feel so much more at ease. Really positive discussion.
Second we worked on some imagery. My T is helping me build a bunch of grounding techniques so that we can eventually tackle some of my trauma once she feels it won't overwhelm my system. It was really great. Actually even helped me temporarily forget about the pain I was in. Created a safe place that I'm in control of, that has a vault to store things I want to save for later, very peaceful and calming. She also has me bringing an object next week to work on another grounding technique. Honestly, the more I go to see this T, the safer and more confident I feel in her. No T has ever spent this much time working on grounding techniques with me so I'm not overwhelmed. She is truly the right T for me. So glad that I came across her name.
