I can deal with all citations/references being at the end of the post, with just [1] in the text. It doesn't distract from reading the text, yet the references are there for those that want to follow anything up.

I agree even with a superscript to lessen the distraction even more. Like Wikipedia.

I tried it in superscript, and it sucked. Sub-script was ok, but the problem is, to get it that way, each reference marker then needs to have a template inserted.
