How do you get horrible dreams to subside? Has anyone ever gotten stuck with a reoccurring dream. Sometimes the dreams are so vivid I can feel them holding me down and burning the inside of my legs! It's been way too long and I need this mistake and al it's components to vanish!

I used to have recurring nightmares with the same theme. I had these as a teenager and as a young adult, same dreams. Now that I am older, I don't have those dreams anymore. I'm not sure what stopped them. I still occasionally have bad dreams that stick with me, but I don't get those same recurring ones anymore. I don't have any advice for you, but I hope yours subside for you.

I wish I knew and could tell you, as I've had nightmares for years now!...................They are not actual dreams, they are actual horrible events from my past life, and are so vivid, it's like reliving the same event all over again.

I can go for a week and not have one, then again I can have two in the same night, it's a terrible thing to live with!

One of the best ways to combat a reoccurring nightmare is to journal about it. Start from the beginning of the dream and be as vivid as possible, not just what you are thinking and feeling but how your 5 senses are being engaged. When you get to the most unsettling part of the dream re-script it (change the ending that is). This technique is used with much success in battling reoccurring nightmares. I hope this is helpful. Prazosin is also an effective drug used for treating nightmares associated with PTSD but it does have side effects the most prevalent being hypotension (lowering of blood pressure).
