Returning To Studies: How To Build And Maintain Confidence And Motivation?

So far today I have done

2 hours Drawing (think I nailed the 5 minutes drawing for the day - did this yesterday as well!)
5 minutes Visual Arts Diary Development.
5 minutes Art History Study

5 minutes Writing

Next I have to do:

5 minutes Bird Identification
5 minutes Ornithology Study Reading

Won't be able to do binocular practice today - too late.

So I have done the 5 minutes of Bird Identification and the 5 minutes of Ornithology Reading. So I have done 6 of my seven 5 minute study sessions today.

So I am back studying again.

My goal is to develop those study and concentration skills so that I can build up to 4 hours of art per day, 2 hours of a science study per day and one hour of writing per day. This will take some time to be present, not dissociate and remember things. But if I practice every/most days that will build up those new neural pathways which will really assist in getting back into my postgraduate university course and my arts practice.

With my study sessions today:

5 minute drawing - I did three hours Drawing today.
5 minutes Visual Arts Diary Development.

To Do Yet:
5 minutes Art History Study

5 minutes Writing

5 minutes Bird Identification
5 minutes Ornithology Study Reading
5 minutes of binocular practice today - too wet and rainy.

So I have done:

5 minutes of Art History Study (x3)

5 minutes Writing

5 minutes of Bird Identification
5 minutes of Ornithology Study Reading

I have done 6 of my 7 study sessions today.

5 minutes Art History Study
5 minutes drawing
5 minutes Visual Arts Diary Development.

5 minutes Writing

5 minutes Ornithology Study Reading
5 minutes Bird Identification
5 minutes of binocular practice today - too wet and rainy.

So I have done 6 of my 7 study areas today.

I look forward to these times increasing with practice. I actually really enjoyed doing these study sessions.

I am doing really well in small and incremental ways.

The enjoyment of doing these study sessions is a boost. I hope to get more with it as time goes on. This is a good jump start for me. It would be good to be able to do 2-4 hours arts practice, 2-3 hours science study, 1-2 hours writing. I will work out the time and hours as I go along.

The first step is do these study sessions once a day.

Then the second step is to do these study sessions twice a day.

Then I either do them a third time a day or start building up 10 minutes ago, then 15 minutes ago and so forth.

But I am at the early stages of doing it once per day at this time.

So I have done 7 of my 7 short study sessions today.

5 minutes Writing

5 minutes Ornithology Study Reading
5 minutes Bird Identification
5 minutes of binocular practice today - despite the rain.

5 minutes Art History Study
5 minutes drawing
5 minutes Visual Arts Diary Development.
(I combined these three study sessions into work on a drawing or a copy study of a painting "Herons & Grasses" from the Sotatsu School. The artist Tawaraya Sotatsu was born in 1576.)

Today I combined 5 minute study sessions with 5 minute cleaning sessions.

Hi Ms Spock

It sounds like you are really enjoying what you are doing. You are doing so well with it all. Well done. :)

Maybe we could all see some of your wonderful drawing one day? :)

best wishes
Saffy :)

So far I have done these study sessions today:

5 minutes drawing (1 hr 3/4 hours)
5 minutes Visual Arts Diary Development.

5 minutes Bird Identification
5 minutes of binocular practice today

I am so impressed with your decision and the progress that you are making! So wise to start getting into the routine now so that you will be well prepared for second semester!

Just a thought, but have you considered planning trips to the academic library, so that you can get used to the facilities? Maybe read some books on study skills etc while you are there? I am sure that you will do really well with this :)

PS: Yes! You are good enough!
