@Go Hungry you are so right on so many levels. I have people who are just 'get over it Laurie' or simply do not understand that when I need to be alone then it really is best just to leave me alone and stop popping in every two minutes just to ask me 'are you ok ?'

@Laura 2 I am in the UK too. Keep looking for that Dr that will understand, thankfully for me I found him and he is great. Although he is a GP he is also well averse with (C)-PTSD and the causes and treatments. I know good Dr's and especially Psychotherapists in the UK are really hard to find.

:hug:s from on Uk'er to another.

t happens so much in the UK - trouble is that by the time you're crushed by it you have no strength to complain which is what's needed to make things change IMHO.

Have to say I so envy your freedom to choose a completely independent doctor. Here they just all close ranks against patients who have valid grievances no matter if they know that their colleagues have been negligent etc.
I know the feeling of them closing ranks against you, since one of the hospital systems here did the same to me. I'll never forget the hateful, dead-eyed look the doctors gave me when I started quoting the relevant state statutes and explained that I was calling an attorney. They hated me for not being intimidated, for not shutting up and cooperating. They also blatantly falsified medical records to hide their malpractice. I can't imagine how crushing it must be to not be able to seek help from independent doctors like I eventually was able to after experiences like that. :(

I too have some people in my life who seem to think that mental illness is some joke that people should just get over.

And boy is that a cute dog. =)

Do we all know dismissive people? My bet is yes.
Once, a good friend who is a minister of religion actually told me quite roughly to 'pull yourself together!' which had completely the opposite effect.

I can't seem to find it in myself to wish this hell on anyone but I am certain that they would not cope any better in the same circumstances (especially as I know how, for example, my friend falls apart when the printer doesn't work or gets very nervous at making phone calls).
Judge not lest ye be judged seems to be an apt principle!

Dogs, of course, know this principle very well and practice it at every opportunity:happy:

Thank you for the virtual hugs...
I'm so glad you have a good Dr. It's heartening to know that they are out there albeit few and far between.

I've encountered a few. Unfortunately, they were young trainee GPs who were on their way almost as soon as they got to the surgery. One was a lovely Asian man who told me that he'd been brought up on an estate where his family were daily harrassed and he used to go to bed in terror every night. He told me that he was sure that most doctors wouldn't understand stalking and its traumatising effects because mostly they'd been raised in "nice, leafy green" neighbourhoods where this sort of terrorism is almost unheard of.

It seems to follow that most doctors would have no real understanding of PTSD - their reactions/responses are based mainly on how seeing a patient with PTSD makes them feel. (Which, one very honest psychotherapist told me recently is powerless and inadequate...).[DOUBLEPOST=1400665708,1400665483][/DOUBLEPOST]Just an 'admin' note and apology.

In my very first thread I managed to contravene the forum policy of not posting full quotes.

:sorry: I'm sorry, my bad. But thanks to the mod who took the time to amend my posts and let me know where I was going wrong:tup:

Hi Laura,

Welcome to MyPTSD forum! :)

I am sorry to hear that you have had such a hard time getting the help that you need, but not surprised. Even though I live in the US, it seems that healthcare is an issue in many countries. I hope that you find the information and support here beneficial to your recovery.

Debbie
