I was put on a combo of seroquel and remeron when my symptoms were SO bad I couldn't sleep more than a few hours per night. I was a little worried about taking the seroquel because it is used for bipolar d/o and I was mis-diagnosed as being in the manic phase of bipolar and kept in the hospital for a month because they couldn't get me to sleep. Had me on so high a dosage of a couple drugs because they couldn't get me to sleep. The real PROBLEM was that the due to a previous retraumatization in a hosp ER, I cannot sleep in hospitals.
At the time my P-pharm provider suggested the seroquel/remeron combo, I was MORE terrified that I'd end up in the hospital again BECAUSE I couldn't sleep (I've been hosp twice due to not sleeping leading to confusion, then forgetting to take my daily Rxs, having a severe reaction to not taking daily drugs) THEN the hospitalizations themselves were so traumatizing for me that it is unlikely that I'll ever be hospitalized on a psych ward ever again.
So, for sleep (I was only taking it at night, but in high doses) it worked very well for me. I would say if you trust the person prescribing the drugs for you (as much as you can trust) then try it for a while and see how it works.
I'd be interested in how it helps with symptoms other than sleep.
