I simply wanted to ask.. why does therapy sometimes make you feel worse?

I can probably google this, but I’d like to know from sufferers so if anyone would want to share personal experiences/thoughts then that would be great.

My SO started therapy a few weeks back, I can sincerely say he isn’t doing great. Don’t seem to recognize him at all at the moment :(

@Zoogal yepp, startin asap.

I’m just here to ask, was just a thought t...
There are people on here that have been in therapy for over ten years still trying to get things worked out.
You're in for a long ride.

You may have answered this already... If you don't mind...How old are you and is this your first relationship?

But there are also people who make a ton of progress and feel a lot better in some areas. Don’t be too worried. It’s a process. It’s a self-discovery journey that just really sucks at times. It won’t be awful all the time. It’ll fluctuate. And if it’s continually bad for your partner you may wish to see if another therapist or therapy is a better fit. It shouldn’t make you feel terrible constantly.

It’s not my first relationship. And I’m not ‘young’

However it’s a relationship that was good/healthy/ balanced etc. and Due to PTSD it’s become pretty much a mess.

A lot of people on this forum don’t know the details of this relationship (before PTSD), a lot of assumptions are made etc.

His behavior is still really new to me, quite shocking at times, like I’m quite confused as to what’s going on. So writing on here and asking, learning just makes me come to terms with things.
