Sitting In The Waiting Room

Hey yes waiting rooms are work for me also but at times so are crowds and tight places, not very good if your a fireman lol.
I also have a Yahtzee game and I play everyday, also I use my ipod alot, for some reason music seems to help.

FIRE.

Waiting rooms are a problem for me too, I can arrived for an appointment feeling relaxed & within 5mins of being there I'm having to talk myself down. My T's office is in a big old house, all the rooms seem to have connecting doors that creak & as one of my fears is people walking through closed doors, its hardly a restful experience. I find having something to focus on e.g the pattern on the wallpaper, pictures on the wall, working out who's appointment was next or which doctor they'd see, I know every corner of that room! I also use my walkman with some relaxation music on.

It's hard to know if the anxiety is caused by the waiting (I'm quite impatient!) hyper vigilance, or just being scared of your appointment & all it will bring.
For me I know it has mostly been the latter but as time goes on it is getting easier.

Hi,

I have been receiving therapy for two years now and I have never once sat in the waiting room! I achieve this by arriving either dead on time or a few minutes late. My anxiety levels are always high on the morning I go to therapy so I guess my coping strategy is to make sure there is no waiting time. Just as an aside I read recently that therapists believe that clients that arrive early all the time are the anxious type, those that arrive dead on time are pathological (guess that's me!) and those that arrive late are aggressive. Don't know how much truth there is in any of that - I don't really dare ask my therapist in case she agrees with it!!
