News Snipers In Dallas.

What do you think about it?
I was curious to see if it was true, that they hadn't commented - because I agree, that would be incredibly odd.

But, as of 9th July, they pretty much all have, and except for Farrakhan, all have smart (and different) things to say, but are overall critical of the snipers actions.

Farrakhan, it's pretty frightening. He released a video on Twitter advocating for violence against 'the white man' (he makes no distinctions). It was released about 3.5 hours before the shooting.

Farrakhan is the current head of the Nation of Islam religious organization. Hes got a pretty broad base of supporters.

This article has a lot of great summary: http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/nati...niper-Black-Lives-Matter-NAACP-385997131.html

I do think howwever that the Black Liberation movement on the whole, with the "kill whitey" mentality is not the way to deal with this next phase of advancement and equality under the law for blacks or any other minority group.
Is this any group besides the Nation Of Islam (NOI), at this point in time? I think it's not quite right to say that there's only one black liberation movement and it advocates killing whites. The Black Lives Matter (BLM has officially come down hard against retaliation, I believe.

Just wanting to make sure that it's not a loud but splinter-faction voice (like the NOI) calling for the systemic execution of whites.

Legitimate question as non American white fella'.

Which branch of the government, is the "federal police"?

FBI
ATF
NSA
National Guard
Homeland Security
DEA
USGS
AARP
USDA
FDA
None of the above?

Serious question, despite the last 4 on the list being a joke (I hope).

Of course I disagree.
That correlation is not causation? That's a truism. Pretty sure that was sarcasm on your part.

I disagree that the Philandro Castile and Alton Sterling shooting are off topic, as it's part of the chain of events that led up to the shooting.

Alba, I'm going to ask you to keep it more polite.
@Anarchy, please keep it within the broad range of:

"The greater and often excessive use of official force against people seen to be African-American within the United States; to include the causes, the broader implications, and the potential solutions."

Now.

Pointing out the flaws in the BLM movement annoys me. Why? It's as if " Well, this large group of people, with all the flaws of any large group of people, has those flaws and doesn't ask for equality in quite the proper and correct way.
So because some small subset of them are maybe not 100 % good people, their claims are somehow illegitimate?
...Focusing on the glaring imperfections of a bunch of very human activists ignores the very legitimate and documented complaints they have.
Law enforcement tends to negatively focus on African Americans and has a disproportionate level of contacts ending in fatality for African-Americans.

Given the current constraints of the system, what can we do about that?

Jeronimo Yanez is Filipino in ancestry, I believe? From what I have read, he was actually a very good officer. Someone who worked hard, graduated at close to the top of his class in college, tried hard to understand and get along.
My suspicion is that he overreacted in fear and shot Castile.
Blatant bigotry is fairly easy to get rid of. Subconscious fear of black people is a LOT sneakier.

Having heard the sound clip of Diamond Reynold's recording? I think Yanez realized he'd just shot and killed someone who was not a threat. He was horrified.

That's who we lost. :(

The police and EMS put their lives on the line to protect us. I'm not going to argue some of the police don't abuse that power, but most of them didn't get into policing for a power trip(there's a lot better power trips).

The vast majority of people are good people.

That doesn't mean they haven't been programmed to be more afraid of black people by the culture around them.
Edited to add:

The protesters pointed at the shooter's location, helped identify who the shooter was, handed over cellphone video. Four of the protestors covered a stroller with their bodies to protect the child.

The march had been very peaceful and even friendly, prior to the ambush.

There are roughly 42.6 million black people in the United States. Millions of them are confirming they fear police and have been given personal reason to. Or they know some other black person who has.
While individuals may lie...Millions of people do not consistently lie about their lived experience.

It doesn't justify it, is my problem.

These f*cking cowards, instead of taking their fight to the department -or even the same f*cking state- where they believe wrong has happened? Instead choose soft targets, in an entirely different region, at a motherf*cking public event, that is mostly civilians.

Either they are f*cking morons jerking off to violence for its own sake, no different than the assholes who turn peaceful demonstrations that actually have a chance to affect real and lasting change, as a chance to burn shit down and incite a riot because they like fire and wanna steal stuff ...or... They deliberately took out cops who have a good relationship with the black community. Deliberately polarizing the issue by turning midliners and allies against their own cause.

Now, I'm a person who very firmly believes that there are times when violence IS the answer. From the school yard to armed conflict of many forms. There are times when violence is called for, period.

And there are times when it's not. When it's not brave, or justified, or anything else but self serving and flying directly in the face of the common good. This attack in Dallas was exactly that. Whether moronic or calculated... It was wrong.

Serious question, despite the last 4 on the list being a joke (I hope).
I actually have an old friend who does enforcement work for the USDA, so maybe not as much of a joke as you'd think.

The shooter in Dallas was one guy. One messed up guy.

My honest first thought was that it was some white supremacist, trying to start a race war. (Hey, I have a tendency to go conspiracy theory too!) So it's a messed up black guy, trying to do the same thing instead.

The way for the Good Guys to win is to not buy into any of that.

@FridayJones
Even if he'd gone to the same police department, it's still wrong.

Violence is throwing gasoline on the fire. I was fearing this, it didn't 100% surprise me, but my stomach really, really lurched over to see my fears come true.

I'm very sad and angry.

I get that the police have to be part of the solution, and harming them will NOT get us into the solution.

...I have spent all day trying to explain systemic oppression to white people on the internet, who want to find any excuse they can to disbelieve it.

I really feel like it's stupid because they obviously WANT TO NOT BELIEVE WHAT I AM SAYING and I feel really shitty and angry.
Ever since I realized this stuff paints targets on the backs of people I know? I've not been all cool and intellectual about it. It's not " those people over there." It's people who have touched my life and made it better.
That makes it fairly personal.

Our paper today

Sad but very true. Downhill fast since 9/11 but i dont think we've ever been "right". KKK changed to "skin heads" fighting for the "aryan race". Some prisons must seperate due to gangs. Each gang in their own area and if one wants to leave or has an issue with the other gang they have to be moved and/or isolated. That includes the "Aryan Brotherhood".

Even my father shouts out hateful racial comments that floors me. He is 40 yrs older but there is really no excuse; seperated by 2 generations or not. No excuse for hate. People are all the same if you peel off the skin, we are all humans. And thats the race I am, the human race.

A family straight from Iraq mid-war get moved here by the government and ive never felt more love then from them. All people of all races of all religons can love all others. Its a choice.

Here in Orlando, there's protests all over the place and some scheduled for Pulse here and for Dallas. Our local police officers wore blue for Dallas and sent their thoughts via Social Media but unless we squash hate and terrorism, we will continue to go down hill and this wont stop. Its very depressing, helpless feeling.
