Social Security Disability -- Some Good News

Hello everyone. It's been a bit. I wanted to share some news.

I applied for disability this past December (2015). Got a lawyer, the whole bit. She said it would take three years for a decision. I almost didn't apply--I was devastated at having to wait so long.

After filling out tons of paperwork and agonizing a bunch, the end might be near. I received a notice two days ago stating, "We have determined that your condition is severe and results in a finding of a disability."

Now, this isn't an award letter, and my pessimism tells me not to get too excited yet, but GD if that isn't validating. I even did a happy dance. Yay!

It is devastating to be on disability, but we've paid into it, and I'm grateful that when we need it, it's there. It does sound like you will get it. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

I too felt validated when I received mine. It was also approved within 6 months. And I agree with @hodge it is devastating but we have paid into it. It is also hard (for me at least) financially. H & I are both on it so we have very little to spare. For some insane reason the state thinks helping by giving us $16 a month in food stamps. That wouldn't even be enough to feed my dog!

I hope you get your award letter soon. Good news.
