That ones going to backfire. As unfair as it sounds, going to the press while you're still in is a bad idea.

I had to as once i have had my tablets i can write complete s*** and not know ive written it till the following day, the beauty of tablets :)

I feel sorry for the poor digger, they could at least discharge him and start the long claim process, but the problem with the report is the inconsistencies.
Both parties were in the wrong.
The digger handed his weapon backwards with the safety catch set to 'Instant'. He should have applied safe.
The Warrant Officer who should know better, grabbed it by the trigger guard with an ice pick, he should have known better too. What is happening with forces today when it comes to weapon handling.
The major problem lies with the Warrant Officer's statement. The news this morning states that the Warrant Officer fabricated (Lied) because he thought the digger would die from his wounds. So the whole thing has to be re-investigated.
What has happened to 'Integrity' in the world. Maybe there is no pride in the world anymore.

Ok that is real sad shit. No matter what SOP are in place, we all know you don`t had weapons around without a safety on.
He can count him self lucky realy. In the multiples that I was allways out with, they would have beaten the shit out of you for such a careless mistake that could cost someone there life. Even just for having a round up the spout and the safety on would encure a smack in the mouth.
He needs to count his graces, and be gratful he didn`t shoot one of the guys he was out with. the name "F*ckwit" does come to mind. We used to be up infront of the CO and end up in Nick for a negligent discharge and that was with out hurting someone.
But seeing as he has been injured while serving, he should be at least getting medical help he needs. But like Zip said, chumping your gums while still in! How f*cking stupid is this guy. Guess they have lowered the intake standard in Oz either that or the training ain`t what it should be.

The problem is that they are not letting him out yet, he is still getting paid so there should not be an issue. The report has to be re written because he lived. The Warrant Officer had to retract his original testimony.
The problem I think is all over the world. Nowadays over here soldiers have rights. When I joined you had no real rights and you did not care either. You joined and did as you were told. We were scared shitless of our NCO's.
Today promotion happens too quickly and you have Warrant Officers after only 10 years in some cases. It took me 18 years and that was the norm, so there is no experience anymore.
The discipline is another property. If an NCO smacks a soldier too hard, he can report him for assault. It's like not being able to smack your children.
This is another reason we veterans have issues. It's not PTSD, its the fact that we lived by a discipline and we are plonked into a world where there is none.
Just rambling now, but I could go on and on. Soldiering is not what it used to be.
