I think the owls are too detailed for their size prime. I honestly don't believe you would get much beyond a sketch type approach... the same as the doves. It would have to be an alternative view of an owl, in a sketch, for it to be legible.

Colours I will sort out... it just needs to be black, minimalistic, yet depict an owl. This is the exact issue I was having myself... to find an owl that can be depicted at that size.

An owl is typically about the head, not the body. A dove, is typically about the body, not the head, thus the doves are an alternative style sketch depicting a dove in flight, thus you can make it out at that size.

I don't believe an owl will work beyond just a head. Maybe your father can prove me wrong, as a graphic designer, but I just don't see it happening at that size.

A circle (or heart-shaped) face, with a beak and big eyes. Simple. I just put some paper to the screen, traced a cricle around the dove and drew huge eyes and a wee beak inside the circle, and it looks ok. If done by someone who actually knows what they're doing, I think it could look lovely.

No worries, M'O. I have a picture of such an owl (too bad I can't post it here, it's real nice) and I forwarded it to my dad together with some others to illustrate what I mean exactly with the info we've collected (sketch, head only, black color only, "wisdom" etc.).

Two people have commented that the rainbow system for the doves is "inside out." The science geek in me protesteth :bookworm: - violet light has the shortest wavelength (ultraviolet being so short we can't see it at all, though some bugs can). Red light has the largest wavelength. Infrared gets larger and goes beyond human eyesight.

So new people start with the shortest & work their way up to the largest. I thought it made sense. Though, I'll admit my suggestion was more based on aesthetics. I thought the newcomers might not appreciate being on "red alert" when they first got on. I thought the purple would be a more subtle marking.

Plus, you know, red's my favorite color???

It's actually to do with learning the colours of the rainbow when I was younger, and the order from violet to red is backwards from the rhyme. It makes perfect sense aesthetically, but if I try to say the colours backwards it is more difficult.

I loved the science geek answer.

If I was to climb up the rainbow, I would start at violet. If I was starting at the top and sliding my way down though (much more fun) I would start at red. Violet makes sense to me this way, but that rhyme will never be the same again, haha.
