Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy

I found the rape scene to be less skillfully executed and less scary. It looked more staged and kind of awkward rather than immersing me in the experience of being there. I don't think it is "less graphic" per se but it just looks stilted. To me. :)

I only watched the American version once but the Swedish version streams on Netflix and I have watched the extended trilogy four or five times so far.

The series was called Millenium because his real focus was going to be on the magazine--I think that Berger would have been more pivotal if only the author hadn't died. I really wish I knew where his mind wanted this story to go. :)

The swedish version, they dumped so much of the story that you had to have read the books to piece together the movie. The English version, you didn't.
My Hubby and I watched the English (Daniel Craig, (be still my beating heart) version) movie. I still had to explain bits to him. I was glad I'd read the books first.

If you watched the Swedish version... you would be explaining a third of more of the book to him, minimum. It was that lacking from the book. Go figure... when it's all from Sweden.

I wanted a good book to read and picked up the first book from my bookshelf. I have read it before but I am still struck at what an amazing book it is.

I am as excited to read it now as I was the first time I picked it up. That makes it a very good, memorable book. It's the kind of book I pick up once or twice a year and re-read. I only do that for a handful of books.

Yes. Totally outstanding. Why the hell did he have to go and die...

I'm determined not to reread them until after I've seen the movies, which for some reason I still haven't gotten round to doing. I think I'm actually a little wary that I'll be disappointed in them after the books...

Agree! I'm such a sucker for underdog wins-narratives. The Lisbet character is almost perfect to release my feelings. She has suffered great injustice and abuse, but still finds ways to cleverly outmanoeuver her enemies. She is very vulnerable, yet never giving up... a survivor who uses what's needed. I wish I had the same capabilities ;-)

I absolutely love to hate Larssons bad guys. that's why it's so gratifying when she revenges. I also admire how he managed to put sex abuse and sex trafficking the central theme of a suspense crime, high velocity thriller. Feels sort of tame reading George Elizabeth now...

The first time I read the books I cried my heart out. Funnily enough I read the books originally cuz they were supposed to theme hacking. If I would fault the Millennium trilogy of anything it's this: Whenever Larsson wrote himself into a dead end plot wise, Lisbet and her hacking friends mysteriously, provided the vital info to propell the story further. It's ok, it's an artistic freedom to do so, hehe.

Researching hacking lead me instead to a real reward. Going to my T is mostly just words, but since most of the horrible feelings are buried in my body, watching or reading things like millennium trilogy, forces me to FEEL the emotions I've suppressed.

Reading and watching both swedish and English versions, made me finally ready to watch the film MYSTERIOUS SKIN , which had been in my shelves for a couple of years. it's VERY raw, but was worth it for me.

Anyone else missing Oprah? I loved the shows she had on the theme sexual abuse. No-where and no-one else could do what she did talking about very hard stuff, taking it under headlights.
