Stress So Bad. Every Muscle Is Tight

I'm usually tense and I'm used to it. I have to remind myself to relax. Lately though the tension has settled in my face more specificlly my jaw. It is so painful. I am clamping down so tight that my face literally hurts. I wake up in the morning aching.

Any suggestions on how to alleviate this? Does anybody else have this much tension in their face? If so, anything you found that works to relieve tension? This sucks.

I get this too.

I usually have to find things that make me laugh...seems to get that 'letdown' of my nervous system into more relaxation.

That, and hot showers. Or speaking with a friend.

:>

Be gentle with yourself.

Thank you Bloom -

Your support is always appreciated and never ending. I'm going to take a shower in a bit and let the hot water wash over me

I was told to deliberately be aware of making sure my jaw is relaxed, as in my teeth are not touching for one thingThe whole face sort of stays more relaxed if you can keep the jaw and all it's attached workings that way. It sounds like a pain but gets to be a habit after a while. My teeth haven't met long enough to say hello for years, unless I'm eating. Also meditating doesn't have to mean lighting candles and sitting on the floor communing with your navel and it's extremelyyyyy helful with releasing muscle tension. There's no 'good' meditation advice because it's an extremely specific thing-what works for whom, you know? Perhaps Google some techniques to see if there's anything which sounds comfortable for you?

I get horrible migraines through tension, so have just found ( and been told ) what works for me personally. I'd have to imagine there are actual professionals here who will be able to be more helpful. :)

I had this too the pain is excruciating & often goes on for days at a time. My dentist sent me to my local dental hospital who gave me some jaw exercises to do & fitted me with a gum shield to wear at night. It was uncomfortable to wear at first but after a few weeks the pain stopped, the exercises helped to retrain my jaw & i no longer experience the pain unless i am going through some extra stress. I find meditation helps too.

I hope you get some help with it soon Heather, maybe have a chat with your dentist.
