Relationship Support Through Employement

So I am in the law enforcement field and with that comes odd shifts and working every other weekend. This is my weekend at work and my girlfriend has been in a depressed state all day...

I have looked for other employement before but now adding a monday-friday (days) aspect changes things. I want to do this for our family and for her (and me before you ask).

Does anyone here have a similar story of wanting/needing to find a different type of job to better support and family life? Also any ideas of types of jobs that suit this criteria?

Yes... I recently changed jobs. My new gig is a regular schedule, and very flexible. I can take off when my vet needs help with doctor's appointments, etc. I used to have a second job with some overnight shifts on the weekends, but it went out of business.

He used to hate me working overnight for the 2nd job (hypervig about me getting ax murdered in the parking lot during smoke breaks), and he used to hate the odd shift of my old job. He would freak out and say I never had time for him... Even though we were together pretty much the other 16 hours a day and on the phone my whole lunch. He felt neglected and like I couldn't help him, etc. So I purposely switched my entire career, got a whole other professional license, got the most flexible, off by 4:00pm job I could find.

He still complains.... I get up too early. Why can't I stay up all night and talk to him like I did before? I must not love him...

It's just one of his cognative distortions... He thinks that I don't have time for him, or that I'm happier doing anything else besides being with him. Luckily I really like what I do now, or I may have had to tell him where he could stick his opinion.

Just make sure that YOU want a career change before changing jobs. She still may be unhappy after you switch.
