I only read the first article, but I'm guessing the others are similar. It sounds like something that could and might happen here in the US. I suppose it can happen anywhere there are official butts to be covered. I hope the "uncovering" efforts of the journalist pay off!

This is horrifying. I cannot believe how people are standing back and letting this kind of threat to freedom of speech and democracy happen. We don't have the right to abuse people, or allow abuse to happen, just because they are asylum seekers and we don't want them coming here, because they were desperate and had money to pay to get on a boat and survived. They are being dehumanised, made to look like criminals and what does that say about this government? It is these tactics that encourage abuse. Really upsets me. The whole government, liberals, labour they are all the same, they are allowing this to happen. And the World should be condemning it. It is shameful, what this country is doing. More than shameful, it is inhumane.

I don't think something like this could happen in the US...teachers, doctors, clergy are all required to report suspected abuse, and I think there is a law in place to protect them from being prosecuted. That being said, they are also suppose to be able to report anonymously, and that is B.S. I have yet to see the reporters name be kept confidential, and I have reported or known someone who reported several times.

We have a similar law in Australia @a3a2! That is the point! That is why it is so outrageous!
