...I permanantly live in the world of the worst-case scenario, mentally...such that I have to reality-check myself about the likelihood of Really Bad Stuff actually happening?

...I am considerably less likely to die from a terrorist attack then a car wreck during a daily commute to or from work. The "Daily commute heuristic " is really useful as far as my personal safety concerns.

According to the above opinion piece, ISIS/DAESH ***want*** us to react by hating all Muslims for what DAESH does, to collectively alienate and disenfranchise Muslims already living with us, to refuse them refuge in the west.

We will thus force Muslims ( in their opinion) to come to the side of DAESH, to become radicalized, to support and join DAESH

Yes, one of their leaders said this explicitly.
Making us fear, hate and reject Muslims as a group...is part of their agenda. One I personally ain't climbing on board with.

It IS an exceedingly complicated issue...and my brain is probably entirely too fried ( since 2011...ohai DID ) to really manage the complexity.
Too much ugly involved. I start getting overwhelmed with the sheer horror of the whole giant mess, and I can't think of any real way to fix it.
...I do not understand the level of ugly involved in gleefully killing innocent people...for any reason whatsoever. Or for that matter, the level of ugly involved in what Assad is doing to retain some area to dictate over.
...There are a few child sex abusers I'd be grimly satisfied to shoot for personal reasons, but I would not be all giddy about it.
