I am so scared today.
A new memory has surfaced.
The summer I was six years old.
I cut my hair that year. They gave me hell about my short hair. “No girl I’d knowed ain’t got short hair.”
This is my second summer visiting Mississippi. I worked real hard on spelling “MISSISSIPPI” that year. “M , I, crooked letter, crooked letter, I, crooked letter, crooked letter, I, humpback, humpback, i.”
I showed nick Just how fast I could spell “MISSISSIPPI” he applauded my efforts and corrected my spelling. (It was EXACTLY the same!)
Flash forward to bed time...
I had a tent set up in the living room this year.
(It was scary on the pull out sofa)
This was the same tent I colored on last summer wth crayons so I could not use it for camping. It was now my bedroom!
Ok. It was still scary in my tent. I remember nick saying there are “crawfish” (scorpions) that come out of the fireplace. BIG red crawfish! The. I saw the daddy longlegs in the corner near the fireplace! No WAY a crawfish could get past that spider! But, the thought still scared me. So I ran to nick’s room for safety from the crawfish!
He was so cool! He had a sexbox (Xbox) he laughed when I mispronounced it the first time and the name Just stuck. His bottom bunk was covered in legos so was the floor along the bed. He had a BIG cd holder that played 3 cds at once! It smelled weird in there. He shoved some legos over so that I could watch him play sexbox. He was REAL good at sexbox!
He asked me what movie I wanted to watch as he shoved the legos over more. “Umm... do you have little mermaid?” He said, no. I knew they had Aristocats because Linda bought my the tape at a yard sale the summer before. “ARISTOCATS!” Reluctantly he got my CAT movie.
That’s where it goes blank.
My stomach starts to hurt. My body feeels heavy. I can’t move anything. I am frozen righ now. Typing this. I can move my thumps barely. I am stuck. I have even stoped shaking it is so heavy.
