The 6 Pillars Of Self-esteem

I'm running into some stuff in this book I so strongly disagree with that I tossed it in the garbage. Sorry, but I am thinking of butting out, unless it is organized in such a way that I know it will benefit me. My reasons for tossing it in the garbage were that the author has no room in his writing for retired or disabled folks who cannot support themselves. Either he has not looked ahead in his own and his patients' lives to foresee that or he is ignoring it as a stage in life. Either way, I decided not to read further in the book, as it was very much upsetting me!

SORRY.

Please DO include me in the private email, and I shall make my final decision when I see how it is organized. THANKS.

I'm sorry for being the party-pooper here, but the 3 positive psychology books I have read have all advised folks to stay away from things that make them unhappy. I do get a sense of peace knowing that I don't have to read the rest of the book, that it is my decision, and that I am so relieved because of that decision. I agonized about this for a week, not being able to go on reading it, not wanting to disappoint everyone, but finally had to do what I did for my own well being and sanity.

I wrote a long email to my therapist about it and she agreed that I made the right decision too. She said she was going to find me a book on self-esteem (or at least some literature) so that my wound will heal. We will also discuss it a lot further in therapy.

Please forgive me. I know I promised to share things from the book here, but I just simply cannot. Not when it hurts so bad. I've been told that one does not have to apologize or give the reasons for such a decision, but I was taught differently, that it is a good idea to do so. And so I did.

Thanks for reading.

Interesting reading about this. I went and did some research on Nathaniel Branden -- and realized that this is almost *exactly* the methodology my therapist has been using with me. I think I'll have some questions for her at my next session. ;)

Not sure if I can join this group, due to time constraints, but I will look into it. You couldn't have two better hosts for this group. :D

I am hoping that the 6 Pillar has some useful direction. As with many authors they have a lot of useful ideas and generally market to a key median of age or financial structure.

We might be going for a sail boat ride and adjusting the sails to accomidate more individual cases! Pietros comment has me interested! Whitney
