The Funny Side Of Memory Loss

These are great!! Johnny - got a literal LOL from that one!

Ok, I've got one.

A few years ago, our old car died so we had to get a new car. The very next day, I drove the car to the grocery store. Lucky me, I find a spot in the row right in front of the store. I go in, get the couple of items I need, and come back out to find the car gone. Gone! So, I'm thinking, "We DID get the red one, right?" I walk back and forth, back and forth. I'm SURE we got the red one. So then I think, "Stolen?" There IS an empty spot about where I thought I parked....I stand there, puzzled, apparently waiting for the car to reappear from whatever parallel universe its gone to....

Suddenly, I look down the parking lot (it's on a bit of a slope). There're a couple of policemen and other people standing around....MY RED CAR! I hustle down there to visit my car and its new friends. It turns out I forgot to set the parking brake. It just rolled down the parking lot (missing, thank god, people and even all other cars) and jumps over the island curb into the bushes.

I got scratched paint, and even a nice new dent to go with my nice new car. Thankfully, the police took pity on the idiot and didn't give her a ticket.

oh Dylan you are NOT alone with that one!

When I was working, I used to park at the train station and catch the train to work... anyway, one day I got back to my car after work and turned on the ignition (all good at this stage) and went to take the hand brake off... but it was off already! Puzzled, I thought to myself "oh well" and tried to drive forward to make my way to the exit and proceed home, BUT the car wouldn't go forward. I tried a few times and triple checked that the hand brake was off before getting out of my car and having a look at the front to see if I could find any reason why it wasn't moving.

That was when I saw a rock wedged against one of my front tires and puzzled, I took it out and hopped into the car and just sat for a moment. It was then that I figured out what had happened. I had left the parking brake off and my car had rolled forward which would have completely blocked any other cars from entering the car park!

Some poor person on their way to catch their train, had to roll my little red car back into it's slot and put the rock there to stop it moving! Mortified, I got the hell out of there, hoping that no one else around me had seen my car that morning!

Can laugh about it now but I've been paranoid about the parking brake ever since! Lol

Grainne, that's funny. It's even crazier when it happens twice. It sounds like you were ducking pretty good too, lol.

But, ya know guys - It's comforting to know I'm not the only one.

I told my boss before I left work this week - if when I get back from vacation - I am able to remember that I punched in 10 minutes after I did it, then the time off prosbably did the trick.

It sounds like you made a god plan with the calendar, Grainne. Thumbs up to you!

Another car story ...

I was visiting the US for the first time and had to pump my own gas. We have gas attendants who do that in my country, so I had never had the pleasure of doing it myself before. Well, I thought, how hard can it be!

I parked, opened the gas cap and went around to the pump. No matter what I did .... no gas! I lifted the pump, pushed on it ... watched other people doing it and tried to copy them .... eventually I was just too embarrassed and self-conscious and so quickly replaced gas pump and drove off.

I felt so defeated and stupid and weak, so plucked up the courage to try again and was back about ten minutes later. I tried again - nothing! I wanted to ask someone for help, really I did, but I was just too anxious and nervous being outside of my own environment. After trying repeatedly again without success, i just drove away.

I needed gas though, and had to do something, so getting really angry with myself, drove across town to another gas station for a third attempt, and this time I would ask someone! Arrived at gas station and went to take the gas cap off, only to find that it wasn't there! Oh SH*T! I must have left it at the first gas station. Back into car and across town to first gas station to find gas cap. Arrived, got out, looked all over without success, feeling very embarrassed as this was my third visit to said gas station and anybody noticing me, would have real questions regarding my sanity.

I searched everywhere getting really panicky now as the borrowed vehicle was missing a gas cap. I was just about to speak to the gas station service desk when I noticed something on top of my vehicle .... the missing gas cap! I had obviously put it there when trying to pump gas earlier! Sh*T! red with embarrassment now, i quickly replaced cap and rove away - for the third time that day.

I went back to gas station across town and straight to the service desk explaining that I did not know how to pump gas and was eagerly assisted by kind person.

I know those gas stations have closed circuit cameras. I am sure anyone watching would have had a good chuckle seeing me arrive and leave repeatedly and once with gas cap on the roof of my car.

I always wondered if I would land on some 'funnies TV' show for that!

I had my hubby in hysterics with this one.

His memory can be very short at times, to the point of forgetting questions he has just asked me.

He asked me if I would like an early night a few night ago. The next morning he said to me "You were quick to take me up on an early night". My reply was " I had to be quick before you forgot what you had asked me ".

He was still chuckling 1/2 an hour later as I left for work.
