The Hunger Games Trilogy

I saw the movie yesterday. It seemed to follow fairly closely to the plot of the book, though there were parts where they deviated from the original story (such as the origin of the Mockinjay pin. Madge was not mentioned at all). It's a long movie - over 2 hours. And, though it didn't have the "grab you and suck you in" quality of the book, I did enjoy it. I was disappointed that the PTSD theme that I saw so glaringly obvious in the first book was really not addressed in the film. The part that I identified most strongly with, the removal of Katniss and Peeta from the arena, and Katniss' inability to switch gears from environments of terror to safety, was not in the movie at all. Overall, I'd say it's in the low B range. Not an A, but not bad, either. And really? How often does a movie live up to the expectations of a book?

We've decided to wait for it to be on DVD... like stated, once you've read the book, chances are the movie will let you down a little. Still looking forward to watching it, but I don't think it's worth the cost of $40+ for us to go watch it at the cinema.

I didn't hear about this series until the movie was just about to come out. I downloaded Hunger Games onto my Kindle, and my daughter is reading it. We did go see the movie, and it was very interesting. I LOVE the idea of how the USA has changed. It really got my mind going. I also found it very similar to how life is--kind of metaphoric.

WHAT??? Seriously? That's crazy! Hubby and I went to the noon matinee yesterday, and it was $10 for both of us.

I'm betting the movie will bring all the more interest to the book series. I wonder if the PTSD theme will be more prevalent in the next movie? I saw a trailer that involved a young Hamitch during the Hunger Games on You-Tube, but I didn't see when it will be coming out.

Welcome to Australian prices... I really don't kid when I say it is expensive to live in Australia. Why do you think Nicolette and I went shopping nuts whilst in NYC!!! Literally half the cost their compared to here, and NYC is expensive I believe in the scheme of US shopping. Don't even get me started on car cost comparisons.

Wow, NYC is very expensive. I have heard New Zealand is even more expensive than Australia. Funny how that stuff is...

Anyway, I enjoyed going to the movie. I went with my husband and daughter. She's 13 (not sure if I mentioned that or not). There were times I questioned if this was a good movie for my daughter to be watching! When we left the movie, she said that she thinks she would win if she was chosen to be in the game! I was expecting her to be sad or traumatized, but she had a creepy excited look in her eye.... *raises eyebrow* LOL

Tickets to the movie or to NYC?
The the movie... we just got back from NYC a few months ago.

I'm with you... raises eyebrow! The things kids think nowadays, as though they're indestructible.

Let me know what you think about the movie, Anthony and Nicolette. And yea - now I see why you two went shop -o - bezerk while you were in the US. For an evening movie, plus popcorn, drinks, etc, you could easily spend $30-$40 here for 2 adults, but fortunately an early matinee is much less expensive. And my butt doesn't need buttered popcorn anyway! :O_o: $5.00 per person is a whole lot better than what you two are spending. EEK.

When I went with my hubby, after the movie we realized there were 2 kids there that didn't look any older than about 7. I was appalled. Granted, the movie was not as graphic IMO as the book, but still. That's an awful lot of gore for a kid. I restrained myself from giving that parent a piece of my mind. I guess the upside is, your 13 year old views herself as a survivor already, rather than a victim. If, God forbid, she were to ever have anything traumatic happen to her, that mindset may help her to be a lot better off. Maybe she'd like an archery class? ;)

Saw the movie... not sure what to think. A lot of children in the theatre were too young IMHO but its rating is only PG (parental guidance) and I don't know what you would have thought if you hadn't read the book.

Not disappointed as I really liked seeing the control room and how they made things happen but the rest lacked all the detail from the book which kept me captured while reading. It will be interesting to see how the next movie progresses.
