Oh Dear MS Spock, I wasn't refering to you, rather just how the public, myself included (as regards any thing or any topic) is usually fed selective info, which may or may not be accurate or complete. What I mean is, not those who are informed. And not a failure to identify what has legitimately been done wrong, or right.

To be honest, I don't know all the details. :( But I do believe GOD certainly knows ALL details.

I think aside from religion or included, each generation is becoming more progressively intolerant of abuse of any kind, and demanding of acknowledgment how inherently evil and destroying it is. And that's a good thing. In my aunt's day, much was tolerated, in mine, still much but less. Now, it's zero tolerance. Thank God. (((((Dear Ms Spock)))))))

Dear Bloom, thanks! You know, way I see it, down to the smallest detail or biggest acts, I am responsible for myself. I myself gravitate more to 'human-ness' (or 'humane-ness'), the only factor I see as excluding one another as people is if we choose to treat each other that way. And it's a real relief when someone does understand or supports, whether it's religion, abuse, ptsd or life, sufferings and joys.((((((((((((Sweet Bloom))))))))))) :)

Many years ago, somewhere in the US, as far as I remember, a priest abused children and was then sent away to work in a kindergarten of another parish!

There is a documentary about this. It's called "Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence In The House of God"

Apparently some within their close ranks got tired of the abject hypocrisy on this as well as the child abuse scandals. Also, it seems the gay prostitutes they frequent decided to blackmail them.

Interesting stuff. I wonder what else will come out.

I have been hearing that the child sexual abuse stuff was a contributing factor as well. I will post anything that comes my way. It would be interesting to know what really happened.

Junebug, thank you so much for your post. I am a Roman Catholic to an I suffer a lot from generalized judgements of some people. Only 1% of sexual abuses are commited by Church members, 99% by family members, teachers, trainers...

I find it sad that some people condemn a whole group of people for therrible crimes committed by some few of them, forgetting the good the group is doing for years and centuries, and hating people that are ashamed of what some brothers and sisters did.

Being quite close to the sources, and reading reliable texts, it is not less than clear that the emerite Pope was one of the most active person to clean and purify the church of these horrors already as a Cardinal, then as a Pope, he asked several times for forgivnes for the crimes committed by members of the Chruch, he met victims whenever he could, listened to them, cried with them...

I can asure you that I never met a more humble and sincere person, without hipocrisy or ANY arrogance.

Sometimes I wish I had a thread to share with people who share my faith. For me it is a huge help in my healing process. I understand if people feel not the same way. But If anyone feels the same way, I would be very glad to meet them on this site.

For some time I did not look at posts on Religion or Faith or Catholic, because I made me feel very depressed, lonley and sad. This is the first time I had the courrage and I hope I will not be deceived.

It is true that one bad apple should not spoil the whole bushel! However, this resignation has nothing to do with his health.

For anyone of the faith of Catholicism all I can say is prepare your heart. The ugliest truth is about to unfold.

As always abuse of power by man has been done in the name of religion. Are you led in faith by the Pope or by the founding doctrine.

As long as man prevails there will be deception in all walks of life. This is not the first residency in the Vatican for this Pope.

He must be held accountable!

To clarify, I have no issues with members of the Catholic Church.

I have issues with their leadership, the choices they make, the women they oppress, and the crimes they enable & hide.

Yes, plenty of others do sexual abuse, but this thread is about the Catholic Church. To me, no amount of good deeds negates the terrible damage the leadership has done. The pope and other 'leaders' are just as guilty as the predators whenever they chose to do anything less than report suspected pedophiles, remove them from leadership positions, warn all the members who may have had contact with the pedophile, and publicly condemn and punish pedophile priests, cardinals, bishops, and any other 'staff' or servants who abuse their position.

I hope the members of the church will rise up and take the power away from such 'leaders' who in no way can I believe are acting according to a benevolent God. I refuse to believe in any God who would possibly care so little for the least amongst his flock.

However humble or sincere he may appear to be, the Pope was in a position of authority and failed to deal with the problem openly. His sexism and homophobia don't speak of tolerance, humility, or sincerity to me.

Elizabeth-Ann, you can start a thread and find many who share your feelings. I hope you find peace and can take comfort in knowing most in your church are wonderful, caring people. I do hope you all gain the power to throw out those who are not.
