Therapist suggested DBT yet she doesn't know it....is that professional? Also I know things could be worse.....and that I'm lucky I don't have dementia etc but is it normal for therapist to compare to other clients? She also gets frustrated because I don't communicate well in person...so she said email so I did then she said I can't email...it's too much that she can't assess through email.....

I'm a confused and irritated I've done best to express how much struggling but it's going over her head she understands I'm in pain but that's about it. I can't even pay bills next month fighting has been obsolete it doesn't matter anymore.

She is recognizing she can't fully meet your needs and that you need tools she doesn't have. Did she give you any referrals or give recommendations on how to learn DBT? DBT can help a lot of people with PTSD find relief from symptoms or be able to endure symptoms with less suffering. There are a lot of great free self-help resources online too. Might be worth checking out.

Depends. What was the context in which this came up? If you were expressing worries about your cognitive abilities and she was stating you don't have dementia, that could be ok. If she was trying to help you reframe your own thoughts, CBT style, then that could help. If she was stating that at least your suffering is not as bad as the suffering of another client with dementia, then such invalidation and minimization wouldn't be helpful.

My understanding is dbt is for borderline not PTSD. Is that not correct?
