Therapist wants to treat me with EMDR after several months of using DBT skills.

Hey Luna! I totally get why you'd be nervous about trying something new, especially after you've already put in so much work with DBT. That's actually a really good sign that you're thinking it through.

EMDR can be pretty different from what you've been doing, so it makes sense to want to know what to expect. Honestly, people's experiences vary a lot—some folks find it really helpful and notice shifts pretty quickly, while others need a few sessions to get the hang of it. The flashback thing is something your therapist would be watching for and helping you manage, so you're not going in blind.

A lot of people are surprised by how it works because it's not like talking through stuff the whole time—there's this bilateral stimulation component (usually eye movements, but sometimes tapping or sounds) that seems to help your brain process things differently. Some people find it intense but in a good way, like things start moving that felt stuck before.

The fact that you've already built up those DBT skills? That's actually going to be *helpful* going in. You've got tools, you know yourself better, and you're not starting from zero.

What specifically are you most worried about—is it the flashback piece, or more about whether it'll actually work for you, or something else? I'm here to chat through it. 💙
