In order to rediscover my own personal values my therapist suggested writing out lists. So I thought this would be a good thing for others to do as well.

The lists are, what is very important to me? Important to me and what is not important to me.

Very Important:

Growth: to keep changing and growing. Honesty, helpfulness: To be helpful towards others. Purpose, to have meaning and direction in my life

Important:

Leisure

Not important:

Power: To have control over others. Wealth, popularity

Obviously I need to figure out a lot more.

I hope some of you decide to join in.

Awesome thread Nighthawlk:cool:

Very Important:
Honesty, Integrity, Understanding, Learning and Growing, My Family and My Pack, Doing No Harm, Space (personal, emotional, physical),

Important:
Healing myself, staying connected with family, Being able to help without losing ME,

Not Important:

Recognition, Belonging (if it compromises my emotional integrity), Social Interactions, Religion, Social Status,

Very important: To be a viable and constructive human being that has some sense of joy, peace, calm, and serenity (with a dash of happiness every once in a while).

Important: To form bonds with other people that are reasonably healthy and mutually supportive or beneficial.

Not important: Keeping up with "the Joneses".

Wow. You have an awesome therapist. This list only sounds easy. It's extraordinarily tough, please do not think my answers would be ego-laden. They're tough to write in point of fact.

Very Important: The well-being of others, my children, husband and mother foremost, anything breathing. Empathy and action.
My place in the world, what it is I'm supposed to be doing here with the gifts I've been given while here on the planet.
Spiritualism, as opposed to a single religion, recognition I'm not alone.

Important: Maintaining fitness and watching health.
Staying connected with the past, as in History, both family and American.
Being informed about the world around me.

Not Important: 'Belonging', ( was going to say 'groups' then thought OHhhh, the forum is one! ) social hierchies, clubs, trends, agendas. Oh, apparently sleep, not my call.

IMPORTANT: Jesus, my Bible, church, Love, friendship, things to keep my interest up and keep me occupied healthily (mentally and physically), food, water, home, the mountains, the birds singing, daylight, my medicines, my doctors, these forums and other places I go online, my dog, sleep.

NOT: Things that are unhealthy mentally or physically, people's thoughtlessness or rudeness, being artistic (though being photographically inclined still is), shopping for items that are not needed or "window shopping", cloths that are in fashion, cooking, housekeeping, property ownership (large as in land or just small things).

This is more of a challenge to find my inner self. How the heck did I get so bloody lost. Below is a list of words to help me and others rediscover core values.

Nurturance, order, leisure , pleasure, solitude, mastery, stability, passion, risk, responsibility, monogamy, openness, safety, rationality, world peace, simplicity, romance, popularity, purpose, non-comformity, realism, challenge, duty, god's will, achievement, mindfulness, power, service, self knowledge, wealth, tradition, tolerance, loving, self esteem, faithfulness, commitment, innerpeace, ecology, generosity, family, independence, friendship, caring, health, dependability, honesty, courtesy, compassion, autonomy, sexuality, cooperation, growth, flexibility, moderation, adventure, creativity, loved, humility, justice, contribution, attractiveness, change, spirituality, acceptance, intimacy, fame, industry, genuineness, beauty, forgiveness, knowledge, authority, fitness, accuracy, comfort, humor, excitement, fun, virtue, hope, self-acceptance, helpfulness, self-control.

I am having a hard time with this so yes harder than it sounds. I hope I did not double post any words. As well as I have not thought of any of my own words to add to the list to choose from.

Thats great Nighthawk! :)

I did something like this about 3 years ago and it helped me feel more grounded in who I am and not be as easily pushed into things that made me feel disloyal to myself.

It was an NLP technique I used. Helped throw off my families ones forced on me too. And then picked out the top ones after writing many down.
