I have suffered with tmd for so long, years in fact. I clench at night. I have a special splint I wear every night. I have seen a dentist for occlusion adjustments. It hurts so badly. I don't know what to do. Why must I suffer physically as well as emotionally? I need relief.

I don't believe in "forevers" but when I am in such pain it is hard to see the light. No medication helps me. In fact it makes it worse. When it flares up, time is the only healer. So, I hope for the days to be over so that it subsides. Please, I need some suggestions.

*gentle hugs* I am sorry you're in pain.. Our bodies react to the PTSD so much Mine is my back... I tense so much at night that I get muscle spasms, Hope you feel better soon!

This might be a "dohh" thing to say but your emotions will reflect physically.
I am guessing though it was a rhetorical question :P

I clench too and do exercises I found on YouTube that you made me think of, because it said it was also good for people with TMJ.
I don't know if it helps. Here's a link

I was having issues at one point and looked into it. Some dentists down near the city will do a type of muscle stimulation with pulses I believe. I think it is the same type of thing that is found in every physical therapy office.....I know I had that sort of thing done on my neck and it really helped. Unfortunately not every dentist does this. I live in the sticks and all the dentists here will do is give you a splint. You've gotta search around for the ones who do these more advanced sort of treatments.

My dentist taught me how to mindfully clench my teeth and then relax. Do this for five minutes a few times a day. He said the military teaches soldiers to do this. The outcome is that by consciously relaxing your jaw after clenching will become unconsciously your brains/body will automatically relax. It works for me. I know I clench and grind my teeth still, but no more pain.
