Hi all. I am a trainee clinical psychologist and for my doctorate thesis, I am exploring what might make people vulnerable to developing post-traumatic stress disorder after the experience of a traumatic event.

If you have experienced a traumatic event as an adult, I would like to invite you to take part in my research by completing an online, anonymous survey. At the end of the survey you have an option to enter your email address if you’d like to receive feedback on the study findings and be entered in to a prize draw to win a £50 Amazon voucher.

I would sincerely appreciate your help and I hope that my research will be helpful for people who have these experiences in the future. If you would like to take part please click on the following link:

If you have any questions about the research please feel free to message or email me.

Thank you!!

Hi Katyjane,

Thanks for your interest! I've sent the link to the online survey to the admin team to insert into my post so hopefully it should be active soon.

I'm more than happy to send you on a copy of the research paper once it's completed! If you provide your email address at the end of the survey I can send you on a summary of the study findings as well as the full research paper.

Thanks,

Aoife

Hi C j,
Yes that's no problem! I may have to remove the exclusion criteria around childhood trauma if it's excluding too many people so if so I will let people know.

Hi Aoife
Good luck with the research!

It may be my own biased sample, and the people who I gravitate towards on here, and who's posts appealed to me enough for me to click them. That and traumatised people do tend to befriend each other, it can be almost like gaydar.

With those caveats out of the way. A large number of people with adult trauma, and PTSD, seem to have infant and or early childhood stuff as well.
It took me several years in my late forties, before I was ready to accept that actually trauma does explain a lot of things about me. I thought that I'd had an OK childhood, and it took a long time to realise that it wasn't OK.

I don't want to pre empt what you find, just a strong suspicion that a lot of PTSD is either early or predisposed by attachment problems and dysfunctional coping skills learned in early life.

My pm box is full, but if you'd like me in, I'll get a friend to send you my email.

Good luck

Hi Anarchy,

Thanks for your input. I think you're right, a large number of people who have experienced an adult trauma have also experienced trauma in childhood. With that in mind, I think it's very likely that we will expand the inclusion criteria to include people who have also experienced childhood trauma in order to get enough participants. So if you'd like to complete the survey then that would be great!

Thanks!
