Hi there,

I'm creating a survey for my dissertation on how Virtual Reality technologies can help rehabilitate people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that comes from the tragedies that occur in life. The survey will take less than 5 minutes to complete.

Link: Can virtual reality technologies help people with PTSD?

Thank you for your support.

I did it and submitted.. I didn't get the virtual reality either so I put it 6th on the scale. ( one past disagree) Virtual reality is 3D like you are- there type of thing. ( going through all the motions for exercise)

There would have be an enclosure that it safe for me? since I feel everything on the outside anyway ( already) We really don't need a box but whatever. In other words... I don't think it would take us away to any degree because we are already detatched. Or I am. Medication makes it okay to function pretty much..So it's touch and go with virtual reality and ptsd ( my opinon)

I have done virtual reality, but there are different types, and it is usually video games, hence my co...

I know someone here in the states who is trialling VR with combat PTSD as their graduate thesis >>> They’re using the Occulus Rift & Vive HTC. Yep. Paired with -essentially- video games (& therapists). No idea what the OP is using or proposing, however.

Look at people like Adam Lanza though. He was "over" the virtual reality side and Occultis Rift. ( and yeah I realize the OP hasn't stated a specific) but damn... I don't know how safe it would be to be beyond PTSD. Military training is different. A person retains some of that throughout life. It's almost like a concealed carry. Its respect in a way. ( I was in it for awhile) So, I can see it for vets.. but not for kids. It would be a very controversial issue. It would be an over 18 thing and we all know how those go. Interesting subject, though.

Could you define the type of Virtual Reality technology? The survey was very difficult to take because...

Hi Fadeaway,

The technology I'm referring to is where you can wear a headset such as an Oculus Rift that would place somebody into an immersive simulation on a HUD (Head-up Display) screen. The technology would cater based on the type of trauma that the individual has suffered. Hope that answers your question.

Thanks for getting in touch

I don’t understand what you mean by “alienate” symptoms.

Thanks.

Hi Eve,

By Alienate, I mean to help get rid of some of the byproduct/symptoms caused by PTSD. Hope that answers your question.

Hi Deanna,

Thank you for doing the survey. Yes, that is what I meant by a Virtual Reality technology, sorry if that wasn't clear enough.

You raise an interesting point about being in a closed space, and I think in reality yes you would be in an enclosed area and feel comfortable and safe at all times; as well as a medical professional being present.

Hi Friday,

Wow, how interesting. I feel our theses are going to be quite similar. It will be interesting to see what research is being done in the US compared to the UK.

Thanks for getting in touch

Hi Deanna,

I agree, there should be some sort of age limit, whenever that's 16 or 18 will depend on each government to decide; if this technology were to develop further.

Thanks for getting in touch

Sounds like my literal worst nightmare but ok I guess.

Hi NoWhereKnowWhere,

Yes, in some scenarios VR could be seen as inappropriate. However, from what I've researched already, the technology currently is at an infant stage. It will be interesting to see if this technology can develop further, and if can adapt to different traumas.

Thanks for posting
