[United States] Neighborhood harassment

Just making sure I'm doing this right.

My next door neighbor came into my yard today and screamed slurs, other things, seemingly mad about either my grass or trash in the yard. (I tried to get clarification and couldn't get any. I had had packages delivered that day and was in the middle of unboxing them.) I am deaf/HOH and couldn't tell what he was mad about. I think he was drunk. This isn't the first time this has happened.

This time he came back later and started taking pictures of me. He claimed to be taking pictures of the house for code violations. There are no known code violations around the area I live at this time.

I called the police at this point. The police arrived and talked to me, then him, as civilly as they could in hopes of revolving things peacefully. They mentioned I should have called every time he harassed me, whether for trans, gay, or anti-Semitism.

They told me he changed his story while telling them his side and that that is common with narcissists who realize there are sometimes consequences.

I'm not the only one he bullies, but it's been a while since I was a target. At least it's not a black family this time. I am worried his buddy neighbors are going to be in on it. I have been picked on in the past when I was ten. This includes sexual harassment and assault.

I am feeling unsafe. But I don't think it will escalate further now that they know I know how to call police. He's been told to act civilly and/or call codes with problems with my "eye sore" of a yard/house.

This is not an HOA neighborhood. My mother bought this house before his family showed up here. It is owned by my father's father right now.

I am aware he owns a shotgun that is used on women he dates, but he has never shot anyone.

I'm just checking to see if there's anything extra you would do that maybe I'm too naive to know about.

I don't think there's very much you can do other than to keep calling the cops, especially since they've indicated they're on your side on this.

Good job calling the police and staying calm! No easy task. Sounds like you did all the right things and are planning on continuing to call them as needed. Really pleased they were on your side.

I found out today that that neighbor man is (or was one of) my dad's drug dealers, so maybe that's related my dad called my mom and left a voicemail asking "to talk" after 14 years of my mom avoiding him, so. That's certainly related.

Just saying my lil affirmations. "One day I'll have my own little house/living area and my own kitchen" and probably no neighbors who are still about my dad in some way lol

Doing okay today though, neighbor didn't bother me. I'm sure he doesn't like knowing there's a paper trail on his weird behavior now. So hopefully he'll just bad talk me and leave me alone

He'll most certainly call codes on me to try to make a point, but I don't believe there will be an issue there. Or if there is, yeah I'll be annoyed, but there will be normal steps taken by people who live in a society to fix them, rather than some guy in my yard screaming like a lunatic -_-

ETA: forgot to mention. I told another neighbor what happened and he came over and mowed the grass for me. Really kind neighbors around here. They let me know that those neighbors have caused bad experiences with many neighbors before who were also doing nothing wrong, including them. So. Maybe more people will call the cops on him now instead of we everyone just coping with a random bully.

My dad is trying very hard to get this house, so I imagine he's probably finding creative ways as well. It's ironic because this yard only has weird stuff in it because of my father, so. Yeah, invite him back lol, we'll see who's an eye sore then

But I feel better knowing other neighbors are done with his shit and are willing to offer support

Happy that your neighbors stepped up! That's awesome!

And yes - everytime he shows up call the police. Don't engage with him - ever. Just call. Eventually you will have enough reports to file a restraining order against him. Although next time you talk with the pd you might offer up that he's your dads drug dealer. That's good info!

My dad called today and after the second call I did answer, but he didn't have anything to say about it, so hopefully he's got nothing to do with it.

(His call was mainly to say he's lonely and knows he did it to himself)

So hopefully all good. I'm about to pick up scraps in the yard and, again, hopefully that'll be the end of it. :)

Some slight aftermath is that the neighbor across the street, who happens to live where a pedo who kept me there used to live, is "siding" with Harassment Neighbor because he's HIS drug dealer lol

Is this real. Am I in middle school? That guy's got kids though so hopefully he watches it. I don't care about them smoking, but it is illegal in this state

That guy's yard is more of an eye sore than mine honestly so I guess this is personal (to him), idk. Wish my mom hadn't told me that about what's going on. I coulda done without that knowledge as it isn't particularly helpful and is just kind of stressful, and a little hard to ignore when it's 1am and I'm managing stress from a different thing she brought up that made me uncomfortable -_- it be like that sometimes. Update: I cleaned up the yard and didn't find any code violations. And barely a trash bag full of litter.

My bestie thinks it's likely my dad got in contact with him and tried to do another weird attempt to get us out of the house so he can have it. He is likely not smart enough to understand that the yard has been cleaned since he left it

I think it's also likely, though obviously who knows. He has been trying to grab where I live currently but not successfully

Can't wait to live somewhere where my parents' problems don't end up being mine lol
