Last night I found my brand new cell phone swimming in the washing machine. Where's the least expensive place to buy a replacement? If I buy a replacement from Verizon, of course they will charge me the highest price.

Advice requested.

Kicking myself.

2quilt -

Both of my children have had water damage to their phones and Verizon has given them comparable replacements for $50. It's worth a shot at least. Make sure you go to an actual verizon store though - not one of the phone stores that sell for multiple companies.

The problem with getting a phone through another provider is that it might not work with your Verizon service so just be careful if you go that route and verify that it will work.

If it makes you feel better - my daughter dropped her phone in the toilet and a glass of sprite in the same day.

This is kind of a long shot but I've known people who have had similar experiences and this worked for them. Put your phone in a bowl of rice and seal tightly (probably would work in a ziploc type bag as well) and leave it overnight. Check on it tomorrow and see if it is working. I guess the rice helps draw the moisture from inside the phone. I know it sounds weird and too simple but I've known more than one person that this worked for so it's worth a try.

just getting wet shouldn't hurt the cell phone as long as it isn't used while wet. BUT, laundry detergent would be another matter altogether. corrosion and oxidation here we come!

Your in Mexico? Sorry I have no idea where. My son is always loosing his cell and he goes to computer refirbishing places. They always sell second hand phones real cheap. But in Mexico? So sad for your phone though. Musta been an awful death, all those bubbles...

I'd give it a day or so to dry out, before you completely right it off as broken. Try putting it in the airing cupboard for a day, it may dry out and be just fine.

I dropped my iPhone into my mug of coffee with both sugar and cream. I quickly took it out and let it dry in a breeze, room with a fan running. It all came back but the camera feature. It no longer takes photos but otherwise it works.

Good luck.

I've purchased a couple used or new-but-discontinued-model phones off eBay with no problem. You might also try Craigslist...sometimes people will sell their old phone when they upgrade to a new one, or sell a new one they get from renewing their plan.

I had to go buy a replacement phone off craigs list.

I live in NEW Mexico, between Texas and Arizona. South of Colorado.

I get all my used phones off Craigs List. You have to make sure the ESN is clean. When I buy my phones, I meet the seller at a Verizon Wireless store, have them check the ESN and once they tell me it is clean I buy it.
