Yes, I am aware people use firearms to kill things other than large groups of children. I also agree it's a serious problem.
I never said it wasn't. I'd have to be living in a cave with my eyes shut and my fingers in my ears to not notice that.

Just because I think we should be looking at why these lunatics kill groups of people, at least as much as how they do it. Doesn't automatically mean that I think gun control in the US is adequate, as it's clearly not.

A lack of guns won't stop mass murders happening. It might help, sure. But it won't eliminate the problem.

One more person shouting "Guns are bad! Need mer' guns control!" Isn't going to make any difference, so I didn't feel the need to say it. My posts are long winded enough as it is, without adding all that fluff.

We do need gun control. Laws need to be revised. Who needs assault weapons....seriously? I am not anti gun but do think we need serious changes, including age for purchasing and those with mental health conditions.

I also think schools need to have mental health counselors on staff. Most schools have guidance counselors, and their jobs are truancy, making sure the kids are taking classes needed to graduate, changing students classes, identifying and making special education plans for kids with disabilities, meetings with parents, sometimes battling with parents, etc. They are overworked and do not have the time to get in the kids business and ask the right questions.

OMG, it was just reported that 6 weeks ago someone called the FBI and reported that they felt that (the kid that just killed 17) was a lose cannon. They reported his social media post, his gun obsession, his saying he wanted to shoot people, and they felt that he would become a school shooter.

The head of the FBI, stated that they failed and now there is going to be an investigation. TO LATE!!!!! This is just sickening, to know that it could have been prevented if only the FBI had done their job and followed up....

Yes you can. I've done it. So have my ex roomates. Give me $50 and I'll buy you $75 of food. It's quite easy to sell food stamps. Once you have the dollars you can then go buy drugs. Herion and Doldid to shoot in my ex roomate's case. And you cannot be found out as all you are doing is buying food. I did it to buy toliet paper, and other non-food things. I had too much for food and not enough for non-food items so I sold the remaining to my dad who then bought the non-food items.

If enough people speak up, stand up and take to the streets to protest, and get to the voting booth regarding gun control, I believe it can make a change. It all starts with talking about it.

lostforgottensoul-thank you! I don't know about others in other states, but I live in a poor state with the highest rate of addiction and unemployment. Again, even without addiction, people need toilet paper and other stuff they can't get.

She Cat-yes the shooter posted about this and it was reported and FBI involved, but the FBI said the post was taken down so they couldn't find anything. What happened to what we have been told, anything posted is out there forever and can be found? I just don't get it.

Maybe it was just my state, who knows, but they told you that the retina scan would catch you if you tried to apply in a different state or county and I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable giving my card to someone else, ever. Not worth the risk to find out if they actually check to see if thumb prints match.

I never gave my card to anyone. They'd get the food and then I'd give them the money. (ETA: Sorry, said it backwards the first time). Well that's how my ex roommates did it. They buy me the food first then I'd give them the money. In the case of my dad we went together. Again. I bought the food, he paid for the non-food items. I never gave anyone my card and I always bought it and always got the food first then give them the money or got the money then bought the food.

ETA: Oh and totally not a good idea and I believe illegal. Just said it was totally possible. But don't do that. Totally not worth a fraud charge.

I don't know how other states work Fadeaway, but in my state, there are elderly that get food cards and their adult kids go to the store with or for them. All you have to do is know the PIN number. It would be nearly impossible to catch someone. All you would have to say is that you were sick or didn't have transportation and sent someone for you I suppose (I don't know the laws) but I do know elderly that can't really get out. Where I live, they just swipe the card like a debit card so there are no thumbprints. Where I live, seems that everyone does it. It also seems that the amount of food allowed is pretty generous, but other items are not. I don't even know if this has anything to do with why they are trying to replace with food box but I suspect it is not, and that it is just another attack on the poor.

I promised myself I would bow out of this as it's obviously triggering to me, but I'm not sure I understand your perspective as you live in a country where gun control laws are set firmly in place thus mitigating the degree of carnage that happens.

And this is to be my last comment on the matter. I can't take it. (obviously)
