For or against abortion, it doesn’t seem like a simple issue or a manufactured one. There is a real push to end abortion and a real push to keep abortion legal.

Feel free to explain why the prelude to the issue's resurgence was inflammatory comments and pushing for late term abortion up to birth to include no care for the newly born by Dems.

I personally really don’t buy into the two party duopoly drama that it’s all vast left/right wing conspiracy to stir up fake news and fake issues and that is a whole lot of to do for nothing. Are the two parties reacting to each other? Sure. They have been for a long time. That doesn’t make it a non issue for everyday Americans - on every side of the issue.

Both sides, for and against abortion legalization, have been trying to change things for decades. It’s not a new debate or issue. There have been feeder cases to the Supreme Court for decades. The makeup of the court simply gives anti-abortion folks a little more hope at the moment (although it’s very tempered hope.)

If the majority of Americans had ever wanted abortion to be more legal, Congress would have passed a law making it legal. Or an amendment, locking it into the constitution. Yet there hasn’t ever been a majority in favor of complete legalization... if there was, wouldn’t have been up to the Supreme Court to sort out in the past or now - and that’s why we have a Supreme Court: it’s to make sure we the people don’t run from the constitution. The whole point of the constitution was to protect the people from majority rule or state rule running over the rights of the individual. A direct democracy is like two wolves and 1 sheep deciding what to have for dinner. Instead, we have protection of minorities and individual rights built into our foundation. The country has failed so many times but over time is improving.

Minority rights issues and abortion are all wrapped up together. It’s not the first time the nation has grappled with what is personhood and what isn’t. It’s anything but simple. A lot of hearts of so many people are involved.

How it will shake out with the judges on the court now? It’s unknown. The smartest legal minds on both sides think it’s unlikely to change drastically.We are not about to become Handmaidens Tale like so many are saying and I doubt it we will have unrestricted abortion nationwide either.

I think it’s a really difficult issue all the way around. My heart goes out to anyone personally affected and grappling with it, on any side of it.

I think the Democrats have plenty of issues to run on, other than abortion. Climate change, growing income disparity, health care, education, generally trying to progress towards a better future for as many people as possible. I don't think abortion is an issue they'd choose to work on, unless it became necessary. I think it's coming up now because those who'd like to see it banned have been working towards that end for a long time and they think they've got their ducks in line.

As far as how many people support abortion access.... This is an issue where the numbers you get really reflect how the issue is framed. What questions does the poll ask and how does it ask them? The poll at the link is confusing. It references a PEW poll and the one I found seems to show opposite results. I think the truth is, most people actually see the issue as complicated and as something best decided by the people involved in the individual situations.

It seems like people who are opposed to abortion should be interested in making other, better, forms of birth control readily available. Shutting down Planned Parenthood seems pretty counterproductive to me. I seriously doubt that ANYONE likes the idea of abortion. It's just that, in some situations, is the best of bad choices.

The situation with Iran is certainly heating up quickly...

The CIA, Pentagon, and White House are all saber rattling pretty loudly at the moment. It’s not like IRAQ, where there was a claim of weapons of mass destruction. Iran is apparently trying to bomb within 1 mile of the US embassy in the disaster zone known as Iraq? Is that what this is about?

We’re hearing that a drone dropped a bomb on an abandoned building in Iraq’s Green Zone. It seems like Houthi militia (Iran-backed) are likely responsible (in addition to other similarly concerning acts in the region over the last few weeks), but so far they haven’t claimed responsibility.

It’s a lot like the Iran/Saudi eternal hatred is playing out in Iraq and the Gulf.

Iran has been throwing out “We don’t wanna fight...but we will if we need to” rhetoric for a while. You can trace this back endlessly to figure out the responsible party (was it Iran, for starting up their nuclear program, or was it the US when Trump ripped up the anti-nuclear agreement and reinstated tariffs before that, or...).

It doesn’t help that Iran and SA have hated each other since the beginning of time - recently the militia have been getting into Saudi’s assets in a big way. And the attitude is that whatever the militia do, Iran is ultimately the one backing them.

Could it go the way of previous oil-related war in the region? Idk, but in a sign of the times, we’ll probably find out via Twitter (good grief).

Iran and US have stepped up the rhetoric they’re throwing at each other. But it’s a bit like the tension between the US and Russia - this latest Green Zone blast is from a militia (most likely), rather than from Iran directly.

Note: that’s my attempt at summarising a complicated, thousand year-old tribal dispute, so take it with a grain of salt. Short answer: it doesn’t appear that Iran bombed US forces in Iraq...technically speaking...

Well, apparently someone exploded something in a relatively remote part of the green zone....

I've reached a point where I'm not going to assume anyone is giving us the truth about any this, without some kind of independent confirmation of facts. It appears that the administration would like us to think the Iranians are behind it. Maybe they are. Maybe that's just what the administration wants us to think. It's hard to tell the saber rattling is based reality or a negotiating ploy. I think there's been more than enough lives lost and blood shed over mindless stupidity. Before we, the people, buy into anymore of this stuff I think we need to find a way to be pretty sure we aren't just being lied to and manipulated again.

Interesting article. Seems like the way to go is kill the perpetrator the second they become a perpetrator and claim you were defending yourself from an assault of unspecified nature. After all, the right to self defense is well established.

I read something recently (I can't remember where I saw it though) not sure if it's true but it sounds like something our government would come up with.

You can't sue your rapist for child support but they can sue you for visitation.
