I'm not sure I'm going to do a very good job of putting this into words, but I feel like I need to at least try.
I have some concerns about "conspiracy theories".
To begin with, I'm totally sure there's a lot that goes on in this world (and any and all other worlds) that I know nothing about. I'm totally sure there are people running around who are exceptionally good liars. Good enough that I can't tell, by their words, that that's what they're doing. I've experienced that first hand. There are all kinds of motives out there, some good, some not. I know our government has lied to us in the past, I'm expecting them to do it in the future, and I'd be surprised it they aren't doing it now.
But, all these "conspiracy theories"? How do we know THEY aren't lies too? Technology, as it exists today, makes it possible to manipulate images and sounds. When you see a video, ANY video, online, how do you know it's accurate, unless you were witness to the actual event? How do you decide who you're going to trust? What you're going to believe? (Serious questions.) Even people who seem to agree with me could be lying, right?
I'm skeptical about the existence of the Illuminati, in the sense of a formal, ancient order. But I have no trouble believing there are people of power and wealth working behind the scenes to benefit themselves, either in concert or in opposition to each other, depending on the situation. (I'm skeptical about a formal order because I think they'd do a better job if they were organized.) With ALL this stuff, I try to wonder "Who's behind this, what do they want me to believe, and for what reason do they want me to believe it?" The worst lies, in my experience, are told to us by people we trust.
