Interesting population trends for the United States including immigration numbers here:
http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tan...trends-shaping-the-u-s-and-the-world-in-2018/

The Temporary Protected Status (TPS) of Haitians living in the US will expire and not renew in July of next year. Immigrants from El Salvador is not going to be renewed under TPS. Their new home may be Canada.

I have an unpopular view as to many of these subjects and that’s why I’m interested in other people’s views and ideas to maybe figure out solutions that is hopefully possible for the future generations to live on this planet. I think we should and need to help as many people as possible to have better lives.

@Fionas74 Very interesting Pew research study. I'm not sure but I think the US population is fairly stable with the help of immigration, whereas the population in Europe is in decline despite immigration. Ditto Japan. Gringos are on the decline across the world. I think we are going the way of the dinosaurs. :hilarious:

@Fionas74 , can't give you the exact verse off hand. Early in the second chapter? Basically,, the idea was that everyone contributed what they could, that was considered to be fine, with no competition or score keeping, and everyone looked or for everyone else. Obviously, that's easier to do in a small group, but I like the general idea.

I would like to know whether or not T's new lawyer actually consulted T before going on the telly and telling the entire World exactly the opposite of what T had been saying in regard to the SD affair?

And since T has apparently said over 3,000 mis-truth's since he came into office - is this latest problem really going to eventuate in anything more than yet another bit of hysterical news reporting as it has been so far?

Good question! I heard one commentator say that Trump hiring Gialianni (sp?) is kind of like the Great Wallenda's hiring P.T. Barnum as their publicist. :rolleyes:

Personally, I don't care if he had a one night stand with a porn star or not. That's between him & his family. It matters more whether or not he broke the law when he paid her off. I'm WAY more interested in what affect the Russians might have had on the election and how do we control that going forward?

Yes I agree. I think his lawyer has landed him in deep water. His family situation might get worse..but hey they're grown ups and there is lots of cake to divide up if they want to split. No-one will go hungry. As for SD she's a grown up too & I could not care less about her either. She is no shrinking violet. And seems to be doing quite nicely out of the publicity she is attracting. NDisc., or not.

The alleged pay-off is very murky and so convoluted it is unbelievable and I do mean unbelievable. I'm sure it will all fizzle out or get tied up in red tape for years.

Well according to most intelligence analyst's Russia had a great deal to do with the election and infiltrated the electoral system in a massive way. It seems those agencies who should have been looking out for this kind of interference were looking the wrong way. Not only is there a deep suspicion that T's campaign was bolstered by bots etc., coming from Russia - the D's copped an intentional shellacking to undermine H's campaign - allegedly from Russia. Either which way - Russia is in it apparently.

Russia has been very busy in the last few years. Syria, US, China, UK - I think Russia has crept up very quietly and surprised quite a few ppl with exactly how sophisticated they can be.

how do we control that

So I think now that everyone across the world has been given a huge wake-up call about what Russia can do and probably has done. It's time ppl got on with working out how to stop them doing it again. Cannot undo the last election result. Prior to Russia's activities coming to light everyone was yelling 'let's do elections online'. Haven't heard a squeak from that mob recently. I guess they did not think the system could be so efficiently undermined even without online voting. Who would dare go near it now?

I think everyone involved in the electoral process from candidate to voter has now been put on notice. Russia is going to meddle. I don't know how they are going to be defeated in the virtual world. But I hope it spells the end of populist politics that seems to dwell on fear mongering and policy politics start's to make some ground back to being more important.:)

I agree. Unfortunately, I don't see any sign, at all, that that is happening here.

I read an interesting (and a bit scary) article this morning on how the Cambridge Analytica/Facebook thing worked. (I think it was in The Guardian) it was well done and pretty reminiscent of physiological warfare type stuff. Things like that work because they do. The exploit the way the human brain tends to process stuff. I'm not sure enough people are willing to grapple with understanding the ways they might be manipulated and take the time to look for high quality information. :(

Well I think the 'fear' fatigue factor is working really well. People react far more to negative stuff than positive stuff. Hence the news is full of mayhem, chaos and tragedy. I am not saying it's not all untrue. It seems to be so easy to bait people with bad stuff than good stuff. Is it human nature? Idk but I am sick of it. (So there I go being negative when trying to stay positive):arghh;

Generally people are giving in to their most basic fears. Even if it is possible it is not probable? Doesn't seem to matter they still fear it and react accordingly. Some big stock market crashes could be attributed to this. And some big international spats too.

I get tired of this. I'd rather stick my head out and have a long hard look at something before I form an opinion. Rather than just fear it out of ignorance on my behalf. That is lazy thinking I think.

But then again - I could be wrong and living in a "ah it will be okay if we work at it la la land"...:roflmao::roflmao:

@blackemerald1
All air traffic control uses English the world over.

Might seem like a small thing, but thinking of all the dynamics of money, patriotism, ideology, ect, ect. That becomes a huge issue with doing anything across multiple nations. There is in fact something that has been made universal.

So it's possible that it can be done with other issues. How or when? Who knows?
But it's possible for the world to agree on something. We just have to work at it.

And now our fearless leader has violated the Iran nuclear deal. Could he possibly be more stupid. He believes that deal is the worse thing that could have happened. In reality it was the best deal we could get. Irsn fought tooth and nail to get a better deal for themselves. Well, they don't have to worry about that now. Between the trade war T is trying to start and the sanctions going back on Iran, he may just send us right back into a recession.
