Vent: Door To Door Sales People

[Whitneys story]

I have signs and they ignore them. With Halloween coming up everyone be on guard. I live on a privately owned drive.
Halloween is a time when the really tall (ha) kids go for treats. But they announced on the news last year that gangs were
scoping out houses when doors were opened! Be cautious.

Yup, same here.

I had a bad experience resulting in the salesman continually banging on the door. I had his company details (that he wanted back), I phoned the police who came out and had a word with both him and his company about aggressive tactics.

Now, even though they see me, I don't answer the door and I allow the dogs to do their 'we are very vicious' snarling act at the window.

KP, That is genius! I had one knock the other day, little soft taps. I thought it was my neighbor... Opened the door and here stands a tiny Asian gal in a dress. It was pitch black out. She was selling cook books.

I got the name of her co. And reported them. It was almost 8pm. Poor gal they really pressure them to sell!

I would have called the police just to let them know. They should have alerted you to who the represented right in the beginning of the conversation.

We live on a very busy roadway and it is a rural area. I'm always nervous when cars pull to the sides of the road. I don't want anyone coming to my door. I think my porch, as it was falling down, deterred people from doing that. Now I have a nice porch and am hoping it still keeps people from stopping.

I'm worried about some people opening the door to people they don't know, or without even knowing who's there at all. Please don't! They could be anyone, with any motivation. They might say they're someone they're not.

You don't have to open the door to people who identify themselves as sales people, evangelists, charity collectors etc. You can ask through the closed door/window who it is and then say through the closed door/window that you're not interested, thank you.

I think it's better to have a blanket rule to never open the door to anyone you don't know or are not expecting. For safety, but also to avoid the stress of talking to these people.
