What are you having for dinner? (wanna share your recipe?)

Prime rib, buffet cheesy potatoes, fresh green beans, salad, french bread, pecan pie. First time making prime rib, it was delicious, very easy to make in oven, and about the cost of a ham. Everybody was happy.

I think the boneless was $11 a pound and a pound at our specialty meat market, and is at least 2 servings per pound. We just didn't have all the left overs we do with a ham, but still had some. After 40 yrs of doing holiday dinners,(usually ham or turkey) I will definitely do this again. Tried a beef tenderloin a couple times but this was better.

Meat prices here have been bizarre for the past month. Choice only (local stores don’t sell prime)

5.99 “Prime” Rib
6.99 Hamburger 80/20
7.99 Hamburger 90/10
9.99 Chicken, (most) Pork, Chuck Roast
14.99 Ribeye, NY, Skirt, & Flank steaks

Feels like someone at regional misordered, and they dropped the price on the “prime” rib roast to shift it before it spoils, but are counting on people buying “cheaper” cuts, without paying attention (or just for variation), and jacked up the prices across the board to make up the difference. If I had a deep freeze I’d be eyes deep in rib roasts for the next year.

Friday-wow, that is crazy isn't it. Sometimes what we believe is not true and is confusing. In the summer, we have a lot of cook outs. We buy a lot of filet at Sams club. ( I don't know prices per pound) But we have found that the total food bill comes out about the same as when we do burgers and dogs and its a lot less work. Burger is expensive, then when you add the buns, cheese, lettuce, tomato, etc. You always have to make extra and its hard to calculate. When we buy filets and dont know exactly how many people will be there, we just freeze the extras. It is a lot less stuff to prepare, get out and put away, etc. I use to think we could not afford filet, but I want to say its about $5 for an 7 oz steak.

Received this red chile ristra in the mail from a family member in New Mexico....looks like I'll be taking myself to school via you tube university to learn how to make some deliciousness from them....if anyone out there has any helpful hints, holla'...

These are all some basic starts/blocks I play around with an awful lot, rather than following to the letter... or hell, rather than even following closely! Still... great starting points.

@Friday , I wish there was a pricing error in my favour for the prime rib, we are around $16 CAD/lb or more depending on what over priced grocery store you attend (Whole Foods, anyone?).

Getting ready to throw fixings for kitchen sink vegetable soup in to my Crockpot. I'll check back in if the recipe turns out tasty as opposed to oops! add more this, more that, more this, oh way too much of that! Water, water, water....

(Whole Foods, anyone?)
:arghh; they were my faaaaaavorite bargain store before amazon bought them! Everything I bought there (bread, milk, cheese, veg, olive oil, salt, pasta, bulk, seafood, etc. 365 stuff) was a 50-75% savings off regular grocery stores ... but when Amazon bought them, all my staples doubled in price >.< It’s still a savings, but it’s no longer a ...
