Jesus Christ is the son of God. Without Him I would not make it through each day, especially with PTSD. He also intervened in my life and saved me from alcoholism. I also believe what you said HollyBerry that He is not what some Christians make him out to be.

God is my refuge. At times I get angry at him, but that is ok, he doesn't mind. However, I did change religious beliefs. I left the extreme fundamentalist religion of my family. My mother does not know. If she did I would be disowned. My friends and spiritual director say "good riddance", but I can't let go. This is a source of stress.

Since this is a poll, and we are all entitled to our beliefs (or non-) this is my .02
Most of us here have gone through he%# and back, so whatever may be on "the other side" is probably a cakewalk.
Personally, I don't believe in "A" God. I'd like to think our souls go to another plane and perhaps some can interact with the physical sides of those who still inhabit bodies; who knows. I think those who need to believe in a higher power have their reasons. We need to live our lives with fairness, honesty, and qood will, and if some need a church to teach them that, then there's nothing wrong there. I don't believe in the "my faith is better than your faith" people; that's why there's so much pain and death and hatred on this earth, and we have enough of that.
The 'bible, 'torah', Quoran (Sp) all are written by MEN for MEN. So I think they are just nice stories and someone decided they'd get a little more power out of this life if they sold those stories - convincing people to "follow" the leader, as it were. Again, mortal human failings, but handed down by God? Nah. Handed down by guys with a need for power. And grabbed up on by successive guys (and women) who need power.
So religion can be good, but mostly I think it's bad, because people refuse to think for themselves if they can have someone else do it for them.
That's just my opinion.

I believe in God, in Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Not the way they were used to control me, or abuse me and my children. However, I will not set foot inside any church of any religious denomination. The Jesus I know would get their carpet dirty and the God they preach may or may not send me to hell, but it's HIS call, not theirs.

After I was in a car accident, I had several what could be considered spiritual experiences. However, I am still unsure whether to consider them as being outside myself (something/someone other) or features of the higher part of our human conciousness.

I consider myself a Christian. Albeit, not a "organized" Christian. My walk with God is a personal quest and not for public display or approval. I don't talk to Him everyday, but acknowledge and thank Him often for the good in my life.

Rarely do I see a beautiful sunset without telling Him, "Thank You."

When I feel oppressive forces around me or my DH, I silently pray for protection and strength. Often, before sleep, I lay with my hand on my DH's heart and ask God to protect him and give him strength.

I am thankful to God for everyday that I have with my nieces and nephews, and understand why He chose for me not to have my own children.

I am thankful to God for my ability to trust others with an open heart, and forgive when that trust is broken. Although, I'm unsure if my inability to open my arms or my door to those who have broken my trust is from Him or me. I am civil but firm on this, in that, I try not hold animosity but have set them outside my private life. They have to "earn" their way back in by rebuilding my trust in them again.

This is not to say that I'm not wary, at times, of strangers...but I try not to let first impressions influence me. "The proof is in the pudding." Such is the case with Obama, time will tell the story.

I will help all that I can, when I can, if it doesn't take from the mouths of the ones I love. This is not a Christian sentiment, because it puts others before the teachings of God through Jesus. In fact, it may relate more to the animal kingdom. Or just maternal. Take it however you choose.

These are my beliefs in a nutshell.

Hugs!

I am purely agnostic, and I believe that, though I am not entirely sane as things may be, that is the most reasonable and sane thing to be. I have never understood athiests or those that follow organized religion; completely shutting out the possibility of a higher power, and completely shutting out the possibility of a higher power other than a chosen one are just incredibly silly options. If I don't know, then why would I have faith/lack of?

I believe strongly in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

I have been hurt by someone that claimed to follow him (my five year abuser who also said i didn't really believe and stuff as a way to control me)

But I have experienced enough to believe he is real, as well as my own personal research, convictions etc.

Peace ^_^

i believe in a higher power he delieve me off my alcholism. i pray to him all the time he answers all my prayers lots of time is answer is no or it can be latter. i was told this by the priest that god has three answers to prayer. we just don't like when he talls us no or later we always want the yes answer.

Buddhist

I'm a Buddhist, so none of those apply to me. You can decide if Buddhism is a philosophy or religion. I don't care.

My belief system includes higher powers, but not God or Gods, only the awakened and the unawakened.

I answered under the agnostic category because I don't know who/what 'God' is. I also don't know if he/it/she exists. I am a strong believer in a higher power but I am still at the early stages of developing my own spirituality. I feel that everything in our world/the universe is very closely connected and feel like there is some sort of collective consciousness that is created by all our energy. I have really enjoyed exploring some of the teachings/beliefs of Buddhism.

vietnam 2nd - I love your post about God having three answers. It's brilliant.
